Description This is my first conceptual artwork and digital drawing of a building, so please be gentle.

This is a concept for a 3D building I'm planning to build in Cinema 4D as part of my ongoing Worlds of KotOR series, and it shows the skyline of the planet Taris.

I chose that planet because the form of the buildings is rather simple... or at least I hope so.

I know that there are hundreds of things so terribly wrong here, but I wanted to upload it nonetheless to show you what I'm up to right now, and why it can take me a little while to upload some real stuff to my gallery again.

Constructive feedback is always welcome!

These Tarisian skyscrapers are good enough to be in a comic as part of a background image even as they are, IMO. Pretty good for a first try!

Thank you - that's a very nice thing to say, and it certainly keeps me motivated to keep improving my painting skills!

I've always loved the buildings of Taris. The shapes are just beautiful, aren't they?

And these are just as good! Are the lines on top satellites of some sort?

Looks great so far! The trick about big cityscapes is to just do ALOT of buildings. I quite like the shape of these ones though. It's been awhile since I've played KOTOR, but it's the same type of building shape you might find on Coruscant. I like it!

I tried to do something similar with Zbrush (I mean design my own 3D stuff) but failed terribly due to lack of free time. My best wishes for your success will always follow you.

Very well done, to my mind. The surface looks properly smooth and glassy, and the small lights look very nice.

Well, they did in the game - why should they not look good on your picture?

Very lovely The buildings look incredibly fluid, and I can't wait to see the backdrop finished and darker shading.

I see now why you switched. Poser is so easy to get annoyed with, especially regarding elaborate scenes. And isn't it fun to experiment with new techniques and programs?

As always, good luck with your new artistic endeavors!

This is just a sketch for me - I'll build the whole skyline in C4D (or that's the plan ) and then paint the sky and add some postwork later.

I'm working on my first digital painting right now, and that's pretty scary. I'm really new to all that, so we'll have to see how the finished result looks in the end.

And Poser is awesome for character portraits and the like, but real scenes with lots of detail? Therefore I'm moving on, and since I'm very excited about it all, I think it was a good idea.

Hey, there is nothing wrong with multi-classing! (oh, dear, fantasy role-playing game reference ) You can always digitally paint and continue rendering; why not? You're certainly skilled at both, particularly given your experience with post work on your renders.

And if not, there are always those of us who are new to Poser (read: ME! ) who will carry on in the rendering tradition

KaanaMoonshadow In reply to apeacockpersian [2010-02-17 10:39:23 +0000 UTC]

I really like the multiclassing idea - I wouldn't mind to become a Supermunchkin here.

It certainly helps that I have used CS3 for my postwork this past year... I don't want to know how that first image would have looked like if I hadn't.

If things go well it will be finished soon, and then I'd really appreciate some feedback!

Haha! If I could multiclass IRL, I would be like... an academian/shopaholic/coffee connoisseur/anglophone

I'm excited to see the final result. Having previous experience with digital painting is probably going to help you a lot And I'll always be there for constructive criticism.

Well, I don't have much experiene with conceptual artwork and thus I don't know what to look for; but to me, this looks just fine. No need to be gentle here.

And the result looks just like that, believe me. I just hope that I'll get better with more practise.

They are all shiny metal and glowing lights in the game, so it will be interesting to get their textures right.

Somehow I don't think it will be an epic fail at all. Unless your colour them purple that is.
