Description One of my still life drawing class assignment, spent about 3 hours on it, kinda rushed the cloth in the bg as i'm running out of time.Still very weak in controlling the tonal value, i always dont have the gut to shade harder, haha. Comments are always welcome, thank you very much!

Ironically, the rushed cloth gives it an awesome feel!

i think it's more or less the same, we construct accurately from the base and keeping in mind of the space between objects at the same time.

The little highlights really make this awsome, you captured the texture of the glassy smooth items so perfect. I really wish you had time to finish the cloth though hehe, the smoothness of it would have been such a good contrast to the items.
Still though, marvelous.

Well done I like your cross-hatch shading. My only critique would be that you should try to have more variety in your line of the contours, making it more subtle towards the light and darker towards the darkest areas to accomplish the illusion of tridimensionality better.

It reminds me of the work of Giovanni Civardi if you ever find one of his guides to drawing I recommend you checking them out, they are very helpful .

Again, well done!

thank you very much, Diana! I'm still trying to find a way to shade nicely, at the same time being attractive and time saving. I'll experiment with the one u recommended, will try it out in the next one! Yes i do knew him, really love his figure sketchings

lol, why every art college need to do stuff like this.. hahaha.. nice job, you have the same problem as me, dont have the gut to shade harder, but you will get used to it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KaelNgu In reply to sams-mao [2010-03-31 10:10:10 +0000 UTC]

still life drawing helps to train our observation skill and understanding of the form and proportion... by mastering this, everything else that we draw will eventually turn out to be good, maybe thats why every art college have this subject

sams-mao In reply to KaelNgu [2010-04-01 04:11:08 +0000 UTC]

yeah... but i have no idea why my lecturer always wants us to finish things fast. he wants us to finish a life drawing in 1 hour time, and that is kinda hard for me, i usually ended up with just 80% done.. D:

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KaelNgu In reply to sams-mao [2010-04-03 06:03:48 +0000 UTC]

it is also a good thing, in the future when u're working, time is money, money is time. He just wanted u all to work fast so that next time u wont suffer from deadlines perhaps

sams-mao In reply to KaelNgu [2010-04-03 12:13:00 +0000 UTC]

now i am already working and suffer from ridiculous deadlines.... sigh being a graphic designer is hard...

thanks alot, u're not bad, just lack of practice. those who are really good, those masters, are because they practise alot more than us

It's wonderful.
I've just started on an art accademy and the teacher makes me do this things all the time, and hell aren't i bad at it.
Maybe it's because of that that I can see the effort and beauty you've put to it.

KaelNgu In reply to NRieta [2010-04-02 16:43:47 +0000 UTC]

thank u very much, you can do it better, you just need to observe more, as how strong ur drawing skills are more or less depends on ur observation skill.

thank u very much, you can be fast if you understand how to contruct the basic form in a proper way. the rest left is only the shading!
