Description My 1st attempt on drawing Ukiyo-e (Japanese traditional woodblock printed painting).

full view the best!!!
(FULL SIZE = 1280 x 1024 (my monitor wallpaper now!)

the one in the red box is his name, Matsuzaki Sanjirou. (a samurai simply created by me)

And the cursive words below it is my messy signature in hiragana....

i've applied texture to the pic so that it looks old and more ukiyoe-like.

I'll try to mak more and more ukiyo-e (bcoz i find it really fun)
Maybe i'll make some for NARUTO characters and others... lol

Hey this is really done well I don't suppose you could offer any tips to someone who is doing something like this for their collage project? I can't work out weather this was done digitally or not, i'm doing my drawings so far on photoshop. Any help would be appreciated and I really like how you have done the hair.

First of all, u have to find an existing ukiyoe painting (as reference) from the web which u think is very close to the outcome you wish to draw. Study the color and mood of the ukiyoe.
I mostly just used pen tool to draw this. For the highlight on the hair, i used small hard brush. (All done in Photoshop)
No soft or blurry brushes for the whole painting.
Remember to search for a nice canvas- or rough-paper-like texture to overlay on your painting so that it looks like a traditional painting drawn on some kind of paper.
Hope this helps.

Oh yeah thanks, people are easier to draw, i'm mostly focusing on land scapes I keep having to switch to different images to see how certain things are done like trees. I'm doing illustrations of the book "The Hobbit" thank you for the help.

yeah, it does look very alike... but i got that texture from the net..... it's actually not a texture pic... it's the cover of a book..... i just crop it out and use it as a texture. XD
