Description Sixth painting in a series!

The concept I was going with was to use only endangered species as subjects, all of them drowning or underwater. The drowning represents their helpless plight as endangered species, and also alludes to global warming (the melting of the ice caps and the flooding of the world). The title is a reference to the Noah's Ark/Flood/Deluge myth that is a constant in many religions and cultures. In that story, God destroyed all the earth and the animals because of mankind's wickedness. Now animals are again dying due to mankind's sins--but this time it is our own fault, not God's. In Noah's ark, it was emphasized that at least a pair of every animal should be saved from God's wrath--and yet humans are causing complete extinction of species. Depressing.

----

Tigers are probably the most well-known endangered animals so they seemed like an important one to include. I decided not to make this one look quite as helpless as some of the others, but it's still nonetheless trapped in a ocean from which it might not emerge...
It's a HUGE painting which gave me lots of trouble (about 6 feet tall). I'm getting more used to oils but I must say that the painting fumes really do suck--I had so many headaches even though i used odorless gamsol instead of turpentine and had the window open! Glad I got to paint with warmer colors though .

Wow this is just beautiful. I love the idea of your series. The colors just beautiful, I love the use of warm colors. Makes me think of "Tiger Tiger Burning Bright."
It is such a shame we have so many endangered species on our planet. Are you going to make more pieces for your series?

Thank you so much .
My original plan was 8 and I currently have 7...the depressing thing is that honestly I could keep going for forever since every day more and more species become endangered! I'm having a show of them at my college in the fall, and I don't think the space can fit more than 8, so that's probably my temporary limit. But honestly it might end up being a life-long project, something I keep adding to as I continue as an artist to represent their continuing plight. I'm trying to capture their beauty, since I am lucky enough to be able to observe during my lifetime! Hopefully future generations will be able to study them from life as well .

I agree. I hope that one day the world will no longer have endangered species, although he have a long way to go

I really loved the color palette of this one and the expression on the tiger's face and all the little details added to it. I also like how he's disappearing in the background and almost blends in with the general color scheme - nice parallel to your theme.

That's amazing! I especially like his face - and eye. It looks like he's giving me the Eye.

A month or so ago, I watched a documentary with my Mom about Tigers, and the so called 'American Tiger'. It was all about genetics and laws and such, it was fascinating.

Good work!

It was just a TV documentary, on discovery, I think. It was also a while back. It really was fascinating though.

I've never tried digital (lacking necessary hardware and knowledge), but I like how involved traditional painting is.

Thanks so much! I'm happy you like that part--it was tricky since I had to work with glazes in order to get that effect so lots of thin blue layers that I had to let dry...oils require patience I've been learning u___u;.
