I remade [link]

The rather basic dress became a twist wrap scarf dress.

Over it is a ruffled and epauletted leather bolero made from unfolding the bag and merging it with the fabric of the boots.

It has short sleeves, and she's carrying a one-sided fur minishawl (insewn with dupioni) that was from the boa... it was unfolded, beheaded and cut in half.

I added a corset, boots, gloves, and a beret because we were allowed to accessorize. Oh... and a cigarette. .

- Ruffled leather bolero
- Fur minishawl
- Plaid scarf dress
- Crocodile corsetry
- Epauletted boots
- Beret and gloves

mmm..you like this..i approve it's awesome..but as a judge u should be aware that the fabric for that jacket didn't even exist in the original version...here your request was clear..a make over using the availables and twisting them...but adding non existing items !!! where's the challange then...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cjrogers1993 In reply to FVAD [2007-04-30 20:52:16 +0000 UTC]

Yes it does. The leather bag?

FVAD In reply to cjrogers1993 [2007-04-30 21:03:28 +0000 UTC]

GOD !!!..do you really believe u can make any jacket from a bag ??
you nead at least a large canvas suit case so you can make a VEST not a jacket...
sorry if i making fuss..but i can't believe the way things are being judged... it's CLEAR..you cannot turn a scarf into a coat...as you can't turn a bag into a jacket and a HAT...

cjrogers1993 In reply to FVAD [2007-04-30 21:15:22 +0000 UTC]

You can also use the access fabric from the boots, which I think he listed above. There would also be more fabric inside of the outfit. I'm not that great with sewing, so I have other judges in the panel who are very talented in that area, so if I made a mistake, I'm sure they'll point me in the right direction.

that's a modest answer that i respect allot..but you have to understand why i did object this so much....when you make a contest in some region and put rules ..you just can't let some pass it cause you found it great...then you made an exception for one while other had limited sources..for example if you watched cwizzle's work here [link] you'll find a discussion between me and her..but she gave very logical explanation for her design..and she acted based on the fact that she had very limited sources (the already existing dress [link] )..so you can't compare between her and kallastyos...kallastyos is making a gr8 work..but a designer should be aware of what's possible and what's not..cuz fashion design is a business in first place...if you couldn't sell your first ideas ..you won't have the turn over which guarantees your survival...got what i mean ??!!

i got fashion patternmaking a month ago; now i know how absurd my idea was hahahaha... hei it was atleast a delusion of grandeur from someone who didnt know how to patternmake yet (me)

ultimately, my opinion is that the challenge was actually too much: its instructions implied that the designers be educating in patternmaking/fabrics etc. and thats simply not possible especially in a fashion ILLUSTRATION contest. you know?

for the next beau monde i make im probably going to go with challenges that dont have that implication... so itd be based purely on illustration.

hm.

For ME...no. You never know what could be inside the bag. It's fair to me. I'm not sure about the other judges though.

I get what you mean.

I really like this piece and I don't want to be out for any reason,

so to be safe I'm going to have to shrink it. It's unavoidable :\.

WOW JESSE!!
first of all Id like to say that this is amazing!! The rendering of the plaid skirt is like the best Ive ever seen!!
Now... as someone who constructs clothes regularly, I must tell you that there isnt enough of that bag to make that jacket.
Your instructors are right about pockets and lining-- but the bag won't be lined in leather, and even if you used the lining it wouldnt be practical as the back of the jacket.
Its better to go with what's visible and implied. We know the bag has a back that probably looks like the front, but we dont know for sure whats in the bag. Saying "maybe its lined in leather with dividers, tons of pockets and a cellphone carrier..." is like saying "...and maybe she's wearing a leather bustier and hotpants under the dress". I dont think that will fly.
Dissected, the top sections of the bag would be sleeves with a lil left over for the epaulets and cuffs. The bottom and maybe frankenstein-ing every bit of scrap might get you the front but there wouldnt be enough for the back and DEFINITELY not the ruffle. Even if you could some how get the main parts of the jacket cut out, it wouldnt be nearly as nicely pieced together as this.
If you have time to change the design, I would if I were you. But keep this one uploaded! On its own its fabulous!

hei. cat suggested using both the bag and boot fabric to get the jacket... so i don't think i need to shorten anything really. do u think i would need to? (if so the sleeves are going first).

Kallastyos In reply to da-coppa-one [2007-04-29 16:27:59 +0000 UTC]

damn it i wouldn't have done this had the teachers said it couldn't happen. what's wrong with them...

ok I'll shorten the sleeves AND the jacket... AND the ruffles... *cries*

o_o i mean thanks for all the compliments guys... but geez i asked TwO fashion teachers about that bag turning into a coat and people are making such a big deal if people want i'll just make the jacket a bit smaller or something...

insaneashrak1 In reply to Kallastyos [2007-04-28 21:46:34 +0000 UTC]

i personally think its fine. maybe make it cropped if people wont shut up about it. but it was a pretty big bag.

you made kinda drab look really fab

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kallastyos In reply to insaneashrak1 [2007-04-28 21:49:43 +0000 UTC]

thanks!

it was SUCH a big bag 8-O!? AND it had insewing and pockets (according to the teachers) within the bag, so even more leather. i cant believe this is actually an argument hahahah

insaneashrak1 In reply to Kallastyos [2007-04-28 21:54:23 +0000 UTC]

lol. dont argue with ME mister XD

and yea, but w/e. it was a leather bag of a decent size, its not like it was one of those teeny 1's they carry at the oscars. and this challenge is hell and its not like ur actually doing it in real life. just a bit shorter of a jacket hun and ull get all those "realistic" idiots. its fine if u ask me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kallastyos In reply to insaneashrak1 [2007-04-28 21:59:44 +0000 UTC]

i think so too but if like a judge says its too big i need to shrink it :\ and then it'll be fine. I'll also probably shorten the sleeve if needed.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

insaneashrak1 In reply to Kallastyos [2007-04-28 23:37:05 +0000 UTC]

dont shorten the sleeve, if u gotta make the cut right below the bust so its shorter but i still have the same affect.
