Description I haven't painted in well over a year - probably something more like a year and a half. I wanted to bring a small gift to somebody that is hosting me at their home, so I decided to paint this picture of Luna. I have a pencil version of this image here: [link]

Does anybody have any advice for getting a true color scan? I feel like so much of the subtlety is lost when I scan, and I do so much color adjustment (it's washed out) that I wonder how it looks on the monitors of other people.

This is amazing! You're very talented with paint! Orcas are so hard for me to draw - I'm always amazed at how well people can draw/paint them!

I love this picture.
You really captured the orca's grace in this painting. Every little detail down on it is amazing.

Fantastic work!

Beautifully done. I do love watercolors for dolphins and whales it gives them a "wet" look.

Try photographing instead. As a hint I was recently told this is the best way to get an accurate shot - use natural early morning light, with it coming onto the painting either from the side or in the general area of it but no direct sunlight hitting it, and photograph using a tripod and no flash, from above.

This is really beautiful!
I wouldn't know how to fix the scanner, but perhaps taking a photo of it instead would get better results?

I think a photo might do the trick! I'm going to give that a shot today.

Thanks for the compliment

This is great! You're so amazingly talented with watercolors.

I have no advice on the scanner issue. Sounds like you need a new scanner.

The scanner's not too old, and it's actually pretty good with photographs. I think it just freaks out a bit with watercolors. The blue paints have a lot of grit in them (and I use them to make the black) and I think it reflects a lot and sort of throws things off.

I really wish I felt comfortable pestering other people about it, though. I'd like to make prints some day, but don't want to go through DA's thing.

I've thought about selling images, but I would much rather do it through another format.

Such a cutie pah-tootie...

Nice work - wish I had some advice about the scanning thing though - I'd like to see it the way it really is.

I'm going to try to take a photograph of it in different lighting, too. It changes so much from the light I have on my art table to the room light, too. =\

Maybe I should require people to have certain wattage bulbs before I hand it over.

Ha ha, yes. Be like - "Here's a 60-watt full-spectrum" USE IT, BITCHES.
