Description This painting, and it's title, have a great deal of meaning and importance to me, which I don't think I will go into, you could probably guess pretty easily if you take note of the title, how the statures are dressed and what they are holding, and my mention of feathers further down.
However, if you desperately want to know, note me and I'll be happy to chat a little with you about it .

You might notice that this is the same forest as The Lantern Forest , it's a hidden part and statues are it's guardians.
One would enter through here with a feather and follow the path to a glade in which the feather would be placed atop a rock or tree stump, whatever seems right, and one would sit and reflect.

Feathers are symbolic to me of something important that has been left behind.

Yes shut up, I do have an obsession with lanterns I wouldn't have one tattooed on my leg if I didn't would I?

Aw man! Kat, there are times when I actually hate you cause I'm so frickin' envious of how talented you are! This is beautiful, darn you, and I love the textures and the blending from light to dark. I'm not going to ask what it means, I'm having much to much fun wondering and I think the mystery just makes it more awesome.

You're just too @#$!%#@ talented...

In fact yesterday ~lord-kes-la and I were talking about it on MSN and he asked for my meaning and it was almost the complete opposite to his. He says he sees two things now and that I havent ruined it... suuuure

Eh, I prefer to let the little people in the back of my head fight over what they think things mean! Although Lord-kes-la could be right - it could be like one of those magic pictures, where you look one way and see something and look another and see something totally different! Fuuun...

lord-kes-la [2006-10-29 02:27:56 +0000 UTC]

Ohhhhh pretty Just because you're busy studying for exams ( yeah right ) I'm going to ask lots of questions...
Looks a bit freaky to be honest... is there some sort of image in the bright light or am I imagining that?
Also behind the black man is another sythe with a hand if im not imagining it - corssing the path with the other guy who looks like hes tending to the lantern but also seems to have a sythe - so is that a guard to this secret place? And why is he hidden?
The black guy at the front looks much more angry than the guy at the back - anything in that?
Finally - whats written on the plaque on the altar that guy is standing on - or is it just random symbols?

I really like this... I didn't even fave the dumbledore one or that massive thing in the art studio that won the prize that I keep drooling over ... but I think I'll fave this. Very nice Kat

Get well soon

Your friendly neighborhood Lord.

KatArtIllustrations In reply to lord-kes-la [2006-10-29 04:24:26 +0000 UTC]

LOL looser I get so distracted so frikken easily

Ok, so in the bright light you can just see a pathway leading on a curve around to the left, there are two thin (therefore probably young) dead trees and vines hanging between them a little like a natural guiding fence.

There are two guards in the background, yes. There's one almost directly behind the one that in shadows, not intentionally or whatever, if you were to take two steps to the left you'd be able to see it.
It's in pretty much the same position as the one you can actually see (which is behind the lantern not prodding it ) The one in the foreground is, I figure, the one that's giving the message of, you know, 'don't come in here unless you have good will or whatever, foreboding, foreboding, blah blah blah' and the other two are placed such a position that if you were to ignore the first they just might 'accidentally' drop their scythes as you walked through and slice you in half.

The front statue just happens to be under more trees than the other two (note all the fallen leaves) so there's just more shadow on it, I spose if the other two were under shadow too they might look angry as well.

On the plaque is like a 'Welcome to Nebraska' type sign... except not Nebraska, and it’s not actually a state or country anyway lol. But you know a Welcome and beware sigh I spose. They're symbols that have been mostly worn away by the weather and covered by moss etc over time, so even if you were to read that particular dialect its in such a bad way now that it was be pretty damn difficult.

I'll never understand your faving system But thanks and guess what?! I'm almost better! Woo!

I love that all though they're warm colour's they seem cold in this picture. The statues are my favorites. I love the way you've drawn the faces so anguler.

loose and lost feathers always make me think of the bird that it came from in to ways: Its either much happier without it or its dead. I'll pike them up anyway if thery're not plain ones- come birds butt? pfft, who cares. We'll all get the bird flu eventaully anyway.

KatArtIllustrations In reply to Loud-Little-Thing [2006-10-29 04:27:21 +0000 UTC]

I tried to use mostly cold reds and yellows just to give the effect that it wasnt as welcoming place as it as once.

LOL Woot! Bird flu here we come!

I really love the colours and style. You have depicted the guardians in beautiful detail. I also like how the yellow light draws your eye into the page, giving the picture depth. And the varying textures.

KatArtIllustrations In reply to hiddenrevelation [2006-10-29 01:27:42 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, mayble I should write a journal entry on them sometime lol

but in short, feathers are originally important to a bird, right? Keep them warm, keep them flying, keep them from looking like a plucked chicken etc etc. And when you find one lying on the grownd, that important thing has been discarded, weather it be it wasnt needed anymore, or wether it be that something dramatic happened and it was ripped out.
