Description As you may or may not know I come from Native American decent. My grandfather grew up on the reservation and left to make something of his life. He went to the military and served as a Code Talker in WWII and met my grandmother. 2 weeks before their meeting she had lost her lover who went down on his ship. After he got out of the military he worked for NASA making space shuttle blue prints that were later used to make real rockets. He had a family of 4 children. Around his mid 40s early 50s he suffered from Rheumatism arthritis which left him almost helpless. Drawing became a great effort but he still did it. He would wake up a few hours early to get himself out of bed and dressed for the day. He was a strong man and wouldn't accept help with the "simple" tasks that he could do on his own even if it took some time and effort. He passed away in 1998. His son, my father, also joined the navy in his younger years. Later in his life he met my mother who was fascinated with the Native American culture and for as long as I can remember the house was always decorated in Native American themed objects.

This is my gift to them for a time unknown. I got this done WAY earlier than I expected. Maybe i'll give it to my mom on her birthday in October or wait until December. I'm undecided but this does give me plenty of time to get it printed and fitted in a frame.

This is absolutely amazing. Also being Native American, it warms my heart to see artwork portraying my culture which has been ridiculed, belittled, and burned. It pains me to see my people living in a cyclical decline, in communities fraught with crime and disease. Thank you very much for sharing this beautiful piece with us.

Out of curiosity, which tribe is your own?

I know how you feel. I am of Sioux decent but the only time i've seen that side of the family was through a documentary hosted on CMT (country music tradition). If you know anything about Marty Stewart (country singer, close to Johnny Cash) He traveled to the Bad Lands where the Sioux tribe live. Its called the "Bad Lands" because its located on a mountain range. The man who takes Marty around the village and gives him his Native American name is my second or third cousin. I cant seem to find this video again he did make a album dedicated to them though.

Neat! My maternal grandmother is Wampanoag, and my paternal grandfather is Egyptian. I am always interested to learn about people from other tribes. I also get extremely frustrated with people who say they're like, 1/64th Cherokee princess. I don't go around saying I'm Irish, or German or Japanese. And I don't know why people feel they need to lie about their heritage. Maybe it's so they don't feel so bad about what they did to the indigenous people that they murdered.

Its probably to feel popular. my father is half native so i'm 1/4th. Just enough to still apply for government help for school and what not. Sadly my children (unless i get it on with a native american man) wont be able to apply for such benefits. I've learned through back tracking my greatgreatgreatgreat grandfather was a medicine man and i am related to Sitting Bull. Other than being NA, i'm German, Irish, and probably some Polish. My mothers side of the family migrated to this country from Germany. Since it was around war time the family last name (originally Schmitt) had to be changed to Smith to find jobs easier.

Yeah, isn't that weird? For Wampanoag their benefits are a plot of land, but you are required to live on the land if you claim it, and I'm not up for dropping everything and moving to Gay's Head, MA. Besides NA and Egyptian, I'm Scottish and Russian. My maiden name was originally Malubareth but it was changed to sound more western european, Mollan. Now that I'm married I have a Czech last name!

lol I can only imagine what kind of children I'm going to have with my bf. He's mostly Romanian (both mom and dad are a great deal) as well as Russian, Polish... and a few other things. I dont remember honestly XD We're gonna have some hairy kids. I hate how the NA men in my family dont really grow hair but the women get TONS of it DX

OMG SAME WITH ME. Egyptian ladies and NA ladies are notoriously hairy. And Jim is about Czech and Italian, but he takes after his mom who is Just Italian. And Italian men are freaking sasquatches. Our poor children are going to need to start waxing when they're like, 5.

I dont doubt that. I hate it so much sometimes. When i shave i'm nice and smooth for less than 6 hrs before those prickles start coming in DX I want laser hair removal.

ME TOOOOO. I started doing waxing about two years ago and that's kinda helped thin it out but it gets pricey and good lord does it hurt!

i mean through the big credit text in the middle you can't see the beauty of the drawing as a whole at first. maybe you should put it on the edge next time

Oh! I thought you ment the artist comment XD And I do that because I had "Family" find out my sites and start printing out my drawings. I used to make them faint enough where it didnt impact the image but they were able to print it out and you couldnt tell it was there. I tried it on the sides too but it was just cropped out. When I went over there i took what they printed and cut the cord on the printer when no one was home. Since i've started watermarking this way they havent done it as far as I know.
