Where exactly is the location to this Mantique?

[link]

The place is called The Barn....6111 Pleasant Valley Dr. El Dorado CA between El Dorado Road (which intersects hwy 50) and hwy 49 which T's into Pleasant Valley, about two blocks west of Poor Reds... (the link says Placerville, but it isn't, it is the tiny town of El Dorado - Not El Dorado Hills, often confusing )

Is that exact enough? I live about 10 miles from here

Another interesting area is up the hill from Placerville - Apple Hill in the Camino area. Apple orchards, vineyards, lavender farms that kind of thing - get off in Placerville at Broadway, turn right, eventually go right again under the freeway and head up Mosquito Road which will wind you around kind of following 50...there's something pretty no matter the season

Nice color and focus Ruth. Just what makes it a "Mantique"? Weren't there any Shirley Temple dolls?

LOL! Thanks

The "mantiques" comes from the store's sandwich board by their lot - more rugged and "manly" items hence the Man+antiques becoming "Mantiques" ... the store, called The Barn, has expanded from the more standard "antiques" inside the old barn out into what was probably a stock yard years ago. They have big and rusty items like a wind mill, lots of parted cars, tractors and such... it is a great place to shoot I loved the trays of stuff like stacks of old circular saw blades and a set of rot-iron (wraughtiron?) window bars leaning against an old paint peeling wooden door, old bird houses and the like

Cool shot Ruth!

It's neat how you can find some great pics in the strangest places.

All the stuff I was shooting was outside...don't think this would be nearly as cool without the bright sunshine

I would have guessed a mellow sunshine... the rust is so warm looking and there's no glare. Anyway, whatever the light it worked beautifully!

well, let's see...dawn was about 6:30 and I was shooting this around 9:30 so it was still side light - also it was so rusty, I don't think there could BE any glare

I expect you're right about rust though I haven't worked with it. Would like to though... I'm fascinated with everything old. (Maybe because I feel a bit of an antique myself sometimes.)

rusty stuff is great because of the colors and textures and I know that aging (with grace ) feeling myself!!

Bob says it sounds like a place that you would go to get an old man ...and he's afraid he might be there soon... 'cos he's feeling older every day!
