This river is very pretty! I kept meaning to go back this winter and see what it looked like with snow...but I'm new to the area and am NOT comfortable driving in that white stuff so I never did ...but spring's here so I'll get there soon

how old is your daughter?

kayaksailor In reply to tHe-FOrger [2009-03-20 05:38:41 +0000 UTC]

she's 19, but didn't get her license until she was almost 18, then a year ago Feb she had a messy fender bender accident that kind of shook her confidence and then last April we moved 470 miles away where she knew where NOTHING was...but she's getting better - what with having to drive to college and class meetings/field trips etc....

oh my.. she needs to be more careful.. I pray that she doesn't get into any more accidents..

it wasn't her fault...but she's still jumpy...adding to that our new home area has a lot of deer that tend to be quite unpredicable and they make a big dent But thanks for the prayers - I do alot also

Yes, deer! here's the shot from my bedroom [link] It sometimes feels like we live on a preserve

We see some birds (how about wild turkey ?) but most are the little sparrow type and hummingbirds ...

I will be going back here several times over the coming year! It will be interesting to see how it changes with the seasons... I am really looking forward to HAVING four seasons - in our old home down in Southern California we had pretty much "nice and nicer"...

Thanks for the two faves

My pleasure. I look forward to seeing it. We definitely have 4 seasons here. I love it; just wish winter wasn't quite so long.

Yep, you have all the seasons up in Canada! We will too, but the snow will hopefully stay up in the mountains (or at least 20 to 30 minutes away ) I think our winter will have us wishing for less rain...but for now we're having the first rain in months!

dove-51 In reply to kayaksailor [2008-10-08 04:17:06 +0000 UTC]

That sounds just about perfect to have winter only 30 minutes away.
Glad you are getting some relief from your dry spell.

We'll have to see - I keep getting conflicting info on whether we do or do not ever get snow here...my daughter's already declared that if it snows she will NOT be going to school! Not so much wanting to play in it (well, maybe a little) but because neither she nor I have ever driven in it...and she's already a bit nervouse about the rain But we got her a cute little used 4wheel drive toyota Rav4 so she should be better off than myself or my husband; we've still got our southern California car/truck

You just need to remember to take things a little slower (it takes longer to stop in the snow when your brake) and give yourself more room. Drive according to the conditions. You'll be fine.

So sez you!!! I know I'll have to try, but I am nervous - maybe even more concerned about others driving abilities than my own! They sure do seem to 'fail' a lot around here...

Being from Southern CA where rivers only run when it's raining this is a treat for us, too! Water...in August!!! Last summer we went on a riverboat cruise on the Columbia River (boarder between OR and WA)and my daughter had such a hard time getting her mind around the concept of a river being large enough to have a cruise ship on it... She'd at that time only been in CA, NV, HI and Mexico...she's learned better now

unfortunately no, I think something similar grew in my parent's yard in Santa Barbara...it had a stock like white flower that sort of branched off like a snapdragon but I didn't see a flower on these so I don't know... I'll get my mom to look at the pic and see if I'm remembering correctly.

About 1/3 closer than I used to be it's actually in eastern CA heading up into the Sierra Nevadas on the way to Lake Tahoe... where I live is lower down with rolling hills and Oak Trees - very dry and golden brown; pretty but I miss green!

I am very tired of brown, dried grass and dust...but I bet I'll soon be tired of rain once it starts falling It will be interesting to see where streams develop in my new property...as long as they're not creating erosion (thanks for the faves )
