Wonderful scenic shot Ruth!
Yeah when you fly over this part of the country you can see just where all that water is going.... patches of green with brown borders.

I love when the farmers use a rotary system and you get a bunch of green circles

in ways it is the same kind of environment...east of the mountains the 'rain shadow' is being irrigated to bring the green ...only difference is the name of the range

very obvious where they irrigate when up in the mountains looking down - like a patchwork quilt

WOW! Now see my front yard, looks more like what is up there on the top right of this pic. BROWN and crispy! I can't afford to water and we have water restrictions (as well as electric restrictions now.) This heat wave has got to GO! An AMAZINGLY beautiful picture tho!

the brown is what most of the area looks like - it is at a little bit higher elevation than the flood plain. I've lived through water restrictions too, no problem with that for California this year - and hopefully never again for us as we now have a well But what a pain...water AND electricity Does your area get its electricity from hyrdo sources?

Nope, just Texas power grid... we have had almost 40 days straight of 100+ temps and basically everyday between 3pm and 8pm we push the grid to the maximum capacity. We missed exceeding it one day by 177kw ... exceeding it would cause a nasty black out from what I understand. They are talking about doing rolling black outs if they can't get the consumption down to keep that from happening. I've never seen this happen. Texas is a HUGE state... this is crazy!

I'm so sorry! Unrelenting heat like that is horrible...our first summer up in northern CA (2008) was like that - not sooo many days but made worse by the smoke from the over 1000 fires that were burning...we live at the elevation where the smoke was hanging trapping the heat and not letting us open the windows, day OR night...

I have to say THIS summer has been wonderful...

Well today would have been day 41 (in a row) but ... we got this weird point in the day where the temp dropped suddenly from 96 (on its way up to the 100s) to 87, got cloudy and then teased us with the smell of rain, but no rain... it never managed to hit the ground before it evaporated. Saturday would have been day 43 which would have broke an all time ever recorded record. We now have another 10 days in the forecast of 100+ temps. UGH.
