wow, this is just amazing! I'm working on a portrait of them in 1906. I finished the drawing and started the shading. I'm hoping it'll end up just as good as this one once it's finished!

i would have guessed 1913...the waistline is a bit high for 1900-1910.
Beautiful details

A good guess I would say, not too much change happening between both years! But certainly yes, things had certainly differed from the floor trailing gowns of the Gibson Girl of several years prior. And thank you!!! Glad you appreciate the effort I put in

This must have taken you quite a while! The amount of detail you put into the gowns and jewels are exquisite. Beautiful. : )

It took me so long!! I worked on it weekends for what I think was 4 weeks. I really wanted to do the photograph justice, they're all so intensely beautiful in it. And thank-you SO much!! Pleased you like it

A spectacular job on the clothes! Very nice work on the likenesses as well - this must have taken a great deal of effort!

Wow thank you!! You really think it resembles them? Well I'm only too pleased to hear it. This took me so long to do, but I felt it was worth it. I despise the shading of their faces though....

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

theancientofdays In reply to KeeganYoung [2007-08-22 09:57:33 +0000 UTC]

Oh, yes - I think you got the resemblance quite well. I'm not much of a pencil artist (can't draw to save my life), but after having tried a few, I have a lot of respect for those who can do good pencil work.

KeeganYoung In reply to theancientofdays [2007-08-22 17:32:33 +0000 UTC]

Well you do are too kind in saying so!! I myself can do all these tricks with pencil and other things....but watercolor is my enemy. Seriously I'm deplorable, and seeing your art was a delight. And I'm happy to hear the resemblances are good!!

theancientofdays In reply to KeeganYoung [2007-08-23 05:57:25 +0000 UTC]

I've only ever done three pencil drawings, two of which are on my other account. I think my lack of expertise is partly because of my refusal to invest in good supplies. Watercolour's not so bad - it's just a matter of getting the hang of it, but I understand the feeling. It took me a long time to get comfortable with it.

Getting the right supplies can be such a bother sometimes! This year I hope to strengthen my skills with watercolours, I really would love to work with them!!

If there's any advice I can give, I'll be happy to help. I usually have a pretty nice list of tips and pointers that make it a lot easier to work with.

It is fascinating, and mysterious about the way they died, there's so many different versions..

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KeeganYoung In reply to vampiremika [2007-06-12 02:32:50 +0000 UTC]

I know! People need to get it straight and decide on one version. Of course they weren't burned or hacked into pieces, that's obvious enough.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

vampiremika In reply to KeeganYoung [2007-06-12 02:41:13 +0000 UTC]

true. The one that seems to be more common was that they were shot in a train while trying to escape or something like that...

KeeganYoung In reply to vampiremika [2007-06-13 00:16:04 +0000 UTC]

Goodness where did you hear such a tale? lol. You do know they were shot and bayonetted to death in a cellar room of the Ipatiev House right? Here's a drawing I did of it : [link]

KeeganYoung In reply to vampiremika [2007-06-13 04:36:40 +0000 UTC]

Oh wow! o_O . Well I shall simply have to give you my version of their execution (which is just a mixture of various accounts by credible authors and eye witnesses)!!!!! It's goes with a picture I had my brother draw for me that depicts their horrendous execution. Here: [link]

I hate to be coming off as snobbish and rude, but I figure you should know the real events. It is proven (even by the executioner, Yurovsky) that they died like how it is described in the account on the link above. Any book by a Romanov expert will confirm it, including the remains of the Imperial Family themselves.

Really? Well now you know all about it, lol. I'm totally in agreeance with you! A horrible end for a family that just didn't deserve it. So how long have you likeed the Romanovs??

vampiremika In reply to KeeganYoung [2007-06-14 00:55:28 +0000 UTC]

i'd say maybe 2-3 years maybe? I've read all sorts of different books on them, especially with thier relationship with Rasputin. It was really interesting What about you?

Well it will be 11 years-ish on July 17th, my B-day. It's really strange having my birthday on the same day they were executed. I was hitched as soon as I saw the cartoon movie Anastasia! I myself have quite a lovely collection of books about them.
