In his defense though, without that katana, he could have been stuck still tangled and tethered down by that parachute until he fell into the drill.

Maybe I am remembering it wrong, but the tangled guy was a redshirt and died short after cutting the ropes anyway.
Sulu dropped his phaser. Then he takes a katana handle out of his pocket which assembles itself into a full katana.

He never used a katana is the series.

Just in case we're confusing each other, I am talking about the 2009 reboot. (highly doubt we're talking about something else, but, just in case, LOL.)

The red-shirt was named Olson or something like that, and he died by pull his parachute open too late, got caught and drawn into the drill. 

Kirk made a successful landing and was able to withdraw his parachute. 

Sulu, however, was shot at in mid-air, and his course was disrupted due to the holes in his parachute. I do believe he ended up tangled somewhere or somehow when he landed and was getting dragged to the edge of the platform when he assembled that Katana and cut himself free.

Of course, I'm no android, don't take my word completely. Maybe we ought to use this excuse to just re-watch the movie, hah-hah. 

And I haven't watched TOS all the way, but on the other hand, I can easily believe you that he never used a katana in the series. He said he did fencing...and fencing is not done with katanas, LOL.

Actually, depending on the rules of the setting he's in he's probably in better shape to win than anyone with phasers. Most Anime worlds would bend over backwards to ensure he wins.

Unless he's in Afro Samurai. Then his chances fall to about 50/50.

She mixed up her introduction and introduced herself as male. Also called Sulu, teacher Sulu (Sulu corrects her in the next panel).

What I learned from someone at the Interrobang page is that she said something along the lines of "This is sponsored by Clare Moseley and Kevin Bolk." It was meant to be a humorous reference.

Thank goodness for the person on Interrobang, because I don't speak a shred of Japanese anyways.

Her subtlety and ability to go unnoticed are the main reasons why I'm convinced she's NOT a Sue. No Sue can go this long without being the center of EVERYONE'S attention. Add in the consistant eyes and common hair color, and I'd actually be shocked to find out otherwise.

I understand half of it but that's because I had a friend who spoke like this. I taught her how to speak somewhat accurate Japanese now though. I understand the 4th and 5th pannal but not the 7th.

Basicly she is saying "Hi" "I(mail form) am Anna Mae Sue (she forgot to switch her name)" Replace this with おなまいは (insert her name with the last name first here)です。onamai-wa (I forget if I am spelling this right) Sue Annadesu. (I am not shure with middle names) "Nice to meet you!" "The Marval Universe is Cute!" "Hi (polite version) Sulu Teacher"

The rest isn't very clear to me. Maybe she is talking about some Anime. If she is she isn't useing the "to see" verb 見ます or 見る　"みます or みる" "Mimasu miru" or mention the word テリビ "teribi" or アニメ "anime" at the end she says good bye. I'm suprized she didn't say　バイバイ "BaiBai"

I know how to talk it but spelling in any language I am not good at...

Sorry if this is long and a lot of particular stuff. Also if some of this is wrong I am only in my second year of Japanese...

At least I got some explanation, I have to learn Japanese on my own and its not easy considering I amm also learning French and Spanish (French becuase of Travel, Spanish because of Family, Japanese because its my heart's desire) so its a lot to work through. I'm good at Romanji, but not Kanji or Katakana.

Can you read Hiragana? That and Katakana are the first two ones you might want to learn. Katakana and Kanji are the most popular to use but Hiragana is still useful for when you are trying to type in Japanese. All of the paticals like "boku/watashi-wa" Wa is a partical but because my typing program isn't working atm I cant show you what it looks like.

I would sugest finding a 日本語の先生 ”にほんごのせんせい” "Nihongo-no sensei" That is actually from Japan or has been to japan in the past. I am not a good teacher

By the way 日本語 is the Japanese Language, 日本 is Japan, and 先生 is teacher. These are the first Kanji I learned. I would also suggest learning how to type in Japanese, it's not that hard you literally type "aiueo" to get あいうえお (the first few symbols in the hiragana "alphabet")
