Actually this is my friend Dionne. It was our first time working together and she was really incredible. A really wonderful woman....
Thanks for all that. The blurriness comes from a really shallow depth of field and about a half second exposure...

Hey Kalen....so good to hear from you. It was really just a simple soft keylight high above and behind. (A lite dome actually) Just getting caught up on my messeges now that I'm back in town...and you are the first...

+gorgeous. i haven't seen much work from Nadar, but it was the first thing it crossed my mind as i saw this. it seems strange, because your work has a very personal and contemporary character, but it is the strength of the figure, the purity of the image that strikes me deeply and brings Nadar's "Mother" to my mind. impeccable technique. the words are really moving and preserves the openness of the image. beautiful work.+

Its been a while- for some reason your deviations were not showing up on my watch...now all is well.
You're my hero, by the way.
Is this naturally lit?? If not, what kind of light set-up did you use?? Sotfbox??? It seems way too delicately textured to not be natural light.

Hey Jessica.....so good hearing from ya...
Thanks so much...this was a very recent one. It actually was a softbox....high and behind her, but shot with the modeling light and not the flash....I tried to get it as close to natural light as i could...
hero? heh....thanks...don't know what to say about that.
I know I've said it before, but I think your work is fantastic....i LOVE your new piece. It's absolutely beautiful....
and hopefully someday we'll get to work together.....
thank you again.....ya rock...

I think this has a lot of - I guess "strength of delivery" and I really like the lighting and the skin. This is almost like one of those Edward Weston Mexican portraits...

Hey thanks.....
Actually this one was studio lighting (softbox on a boom) but shooting by the modeling light and not the strobe. Shot it on a Mamiya 645, 80mm wide open (or close to it) Glad you liked it.....

Somehow this portrait reminds me of those old portraits of native american chiefs like sitting bull, et al you see in history books. Very powerful, with deep shadows and strong expressions.

I love the imperfectness of the model. the sepia tones. And the overall reality of the photograph. there's a load of emotion and powerful interpretation going on. powerful and sweet. Your words are always so lyrical, and add so much too.
