Queen Tomyris lost a battle and her son to the Persian king, Cyrus the Great. Fuelled by her grief she challenged him to another battle.Cyrus believed that he’d win again, but Tomyris’ forces circled his armies and she bested him in melee combat. To celebrate her victory, she doused his head in blood.
