Monstrous canines and their disguised worshippers; I have a feeling WHH didn't particularly like dogs, haha. Ils were a breed of extremely large dog fed exclusively with human sacrifices. The priests would often hunt among them disguised in dog-skins.

Their colour was dirty, unhealthy white and they were hideously blotched with great sores, while their eyes showed scummy and brutishly inert in the light.
(…)Abruptly, the boy saw something extraordinary; for among the hinder dogs, there ran on all fours with the dogs, certain creatures that whined and snarled like dogs yet were certainly not dogs.
The boy had climbed out of the water, onto the other bank and had a clear view; and suddenly realised that the creatures that ran with the dogs were men, running with incredible swiftness on all fours... not on their hand and knees but upon their hands and toes. They were covered from head to toe with what appeared to be great dog-skins.
