Description "We all know and love famous characters like Mickey Mouse, Mario, Sailor Moon, and Batman, but then there are those who have been all but forgotten by all save for a collective few. Why do these characters fall into obscurity? Sometimes, controversy overshadows the character and their stardom ends early. Other times, the character was once well-known and loved, but is quickly overshadowed by newer characters rising in popularity. Either way, these characters simply fell through the cracks of time. Sad that these characters are forgotten? That's why the one and only Kirby5422 is here, to reopen the vault for better or worse and allow us all to take a gander back at the past and wonder what made it so that these characters were left to collect dust......"
Episode 3- The Noid (Domino's Pizza)

First Major Appearance: 1986Last Major Appearance: 1989
In 1979, Domino's Pizza established a guarantee that customers would receive their pizzas within 30 minutes of placing an order or they would receive the pizzas free, until the mid-1980s when it was reduced to $3 off. This resulted in delivery drivers driving rather recklessly (probably from the stress of having to hurry up with the deliveries) which incidentally lead to the pizza chain coming up with an idea for a mascot that represented all the obstacles in the customers not getting the Domino's Pizza on time. Group 243, the advertising agency of Domino's, hired Will Vinton studios to create this mischievous mascot, which would eventually be known as the Noid....

Designed by Christopher and Brian Baker, the Noid was a bunny-eared humanoid creature in a red jumpsuit that really HATED pizza. He hated pizza so much that he would try to ruin the pizza for the customers by trying to smash it, dampen it, making it cold, etc. The Noid enjoyed sabotaging pizza deliveries just because he hated pizza that much. However, he never was able to overcome the might that was Domino's Pizza. The character was mostly created as part of the Domino's advertising campaign . The commercials featuring this Noid character used the slogan "Avoid The Noid".

Apparently, Domino's was so confident in this new mascot that they even had several video games created to cash in on the video game craze during the late 80s. One was "Avoid The Noid", where you are a pizza deliverer who is menaced by various Noids in an apartment building. The other, was simply a reskin of Kamen no Ninja Hanamaru renamed to "Yo! Noid". The latter was apparently very popular as in 2017, a fan-made sequel titled Yo! Noid 2: Enter The Void was released as freeware.

......I just don't get HOW Domino's thought this thing would be a good idea as a mascot. Other than the simple fact that his design REEKS of Gonk and looks like he'd be more suited in a fetish video, would people really want to think of that thing when they're eating pizza? Or hell, even thinking about pizza at all?

Anyways, the Noid came crashing down due to an incident in the January of 1989 when a schizophrenic man named Kenneth Lamar Noid walked into a local Domino’s joint in Atlanta and held up the place, holding the employees there hostage. You see, the man believed that the mascot was a personal attack on him (or rather, the Noid's inspiration) so to him, this was his form of retaliation. Thankfully, nobody was hurt, but the damage was already done. The headline “Domino’s Hostages Couldn’t Avoid the Noid this Time" was just too good to ignore.

This would all lead to the end of both Noids. The real Noid spent his last three months in an institution before tragically committing suicide in 1995. And as for the Noid himself? Domino's had discontinued the mascot and the little pizza-hating imp disappeared quietly into the night.

Stay tuned for the next episode, where we take a look at a vintage star that unexpectedly became an internet meme the past year!

Okay question. How does the Noid look more suited for a fetish video? Is it the suit his wearing or something else about him?
