Description I tried to draw people in church this Sunday and kept failing miserably.

So I drew angry warrior badgers instead. 8|

These lords excel in badgering their enemies. Expect for that one badger on the lower right because his life obviously sucks. Great work with this

Really cool sketches - I always have trouble keeping mine neat, but these are really clean and well-developed.

Two things I love about this:

Boar's little "rawr" that makes him sound like a cat in my mind XD

Sunflash's thinking "mean ol ferret -n-" XD

Holy crap man. This was like MY series when I was younger, i loved it so much and the characters from the books were like all I drew. EVER! They were crap of course but your renditions are an awesome mix of animal and human anatomy. I'm really digging the cartoony-ness of them, too! It's kind of inspired me to try and draw them again :]

These are really cool, but... shouldn't you be listening to the pastor during church instead of drawing badger lords?

Kobb In reply to RedwallReader [2010-01-25 04:31:34 +0000 UTC]

Haha, I do. In fact, if I don't draw, I tend to start to daydream and miss the sermons completely. It gives my hands something to do so my brain is free to listen.

I need that sometimes, too, only I do oragami. I'm no good at it, but hey! It's SOMETHING!

Ho yesss. Orlando. Always one of my faves.

But then there's Lona Bowstripe, Russano, and Lord Brocktree that have always struck me as absolute kick.

Even though she's a 'Badger Lady', I'll always have a soft spot for "Cregga, ol' gel."

Lovely sketches.

Cregga is awesome. I'm really not sure why I haven't drawn her yet, actually. |:

Russano is also really cool, just because he's a more intellectual and gentle sort of badger.

I always liked the guy [Russano] for not being your run-of-the-mill badger Lord.

Despite how much I want a picture of Sunflash being heroic instead of slave-ly, this pic reminds me how much I used to love the Redwall badgers, Sunflash especially. You've made them look really awesome, and the paws, especially on Swartt, are an exquisite combination of human and animal. You have an awesome gallery.

Did I ever THANK YOU for plantigrade badgers? When I see digitigrade badgers it makes me want to smash things with a metal bat.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kobb In reply to Cheddarness8 [2009-03-12 19:56:04 +0000 UTC]

Even if they were digitigrade in nature (which they aren't), it just doesn't look right. Badgers are generally cast as heavy characters - strong, solid (fighters) without a whole lot of natural grace. Flat feet sell weight better, and they stop badgers from looking like they might have the agility of a hare or something.

But then again, I have found anthropomorphic animals to work for me better if I cheat them all towards plantigrade and just keep as much leg structure otherwise intact as possible. This way, it's so much easier to figure out how to put them in pants. X)

Cheddarness8 In reply to Kobb [2009-03-17 22:01:49 +0000 UTC]

Lookit this, I managed to cajole you into some scintillating conversation. I totally agree with you on the whole weight balance thing. If you don't give those heavy-topped badgers a heavy base to stand on, they may just topple over when you shove them. XD Or maybe their little twig digitigrade feet my snap.

Pants? XD Tricky creatures. I'm glad you have a method though.

You ever going to try a hand at female badgers? If I managed to pull it off, Dakk, I'm sure YOU can. I agree that hips are the thing to try if you want to go for fem. Maybe a hint of bewbs, though probably nothing buxom.

I'm not brave enough to actually pull out a sketchbook in church! We've got this tiny congregation... around 25 people. I'd get in trouble

Kobb In reply to RedRodent [2008-06-26 01:18:16 +0000 UTC]

I used to... Dad thought it was inappropriate. And when Badger Lords are concerned... probably. But drawing does help me focus better. It keeps my hands and part of my mind busy so the rest can listen to the speakers.

Kobb In reply to zoharskarth [2008-06-18 02:13:10 +0000 UTC]

That's young Sunflash. He was captured by the ferret, hobbled, and forced to give him rides for the joy of humiliation in one of the Redwall books. Of course, you can't hold a badger down for long before they do dangerous things to you.
