At the first moment I didn't know what to draw. I was thinking about many characters (Tigerstar - big spider, Brackenfur - eagle, Longtail - hare...), but none of them was much interesting and innovative. I wanted to dive into the character's experences and changes in their personality, and this process is probably the best illustrated by Ravenpaw.
To be honest, this idea sprang to my mind from nowhere, and is, IMO, quite accurate.

Ravenkit was just another cat in the Clan, nobody special. He didn't yet show his potential, he was just like the green caterpillar - strong, but young and unnoticed. I suppose he was also often outshined by his braver brother, Dustkit. He was patiently waiting for his time, not showing was he was able to do. Noone admired him, since he wasn't strong or impressive, just like noone admires little caterpillars.
The background is the Thunderclan camp, which he spent all of his days in. Only a part of the sky is visible, the rest is blocked with trees. This is a symbol of him not being able to 'spread his wings' yet, but he still have some potential.

When he became a apprentice, Ravenpaw, his world has dramatically changed. Tigerclaw was an exacting mentor, using intimidation and threats. The young apprentice secluded himself from the world, just like a chrysalis in its cocoon. He didn't progress, lived in constant fear, susceptible to manipulation, just like a cocoon is prone to accidents, according to the changes in weather.
In the background you can see some rocks imitating the Snakerocks, where Ravenpaw caught a viper. I thought this place suits the drawing's theme, as it showed that despite apparent weakness, Ravenpaw is a strong and brave cat when he has his chance to shine. The sky behind him is cloudy and rough, what symbolizes sadness, his constant low spirits and mortal fear of his mentor. You can't see any sun, happiness symbol.

However, when Ravenpaw succeeded to escape and join Barley, he became an entirely different cat. He changed from a haggard, weak and fearful kitty to a confident, well-build and happy cat with a smile on his handsome muzzle. It was just like a beautiful, colorful butterfly emerging from the cocoon. And finally Ravenpaw became free, free as a butterfly flying over fields, forests and lakes.
The background is a cornfield, which I always associated with him and Barley, as they lived in a barn. Besides that, the golden ears are so warm and joyful, full of optimism. Behind the cat you can eventually see the blue sky with only a few clouds, meaning that Ravenpaw was finally happy and had the chance to 'spread his wings' and show his true face.
