So, uh, this is my attempt at crocheting a Zuko mask.

The story behind this is actually pretty funny: brother and sister (in-law) are expecting their second child and asked me to make a lovey. Easy peasy. Then I had a thought (uh-oh) and called them back. Would they like me to make something for the older child so they didn’t feel left out during the flurry of gift giving that would happen upon the birth of their new sibling?

I got a resounding “Yes!” and an interesting request: could I make a mask of Prince Zuko? Lacking any fear I jumped at the chance and set about collecting the materials I would need.

Then I had another (panicky) thought.

Cue the following text message exchange:

Me: Bro, which hairstyle?!

Bro: Uhm, the Fire Nation one???

*Many face palms and one “seasons of Zuko’s hair meme” passed around later* and season one Zuko won out.

While there are some things I would do differently in hindsight, overall I’m very happy with this, though the nei-phew will get the final say

PS: I am WELL AWARE that the topknot/ponytail is too small and short, but as this needs to be able to survive the play antics of a three year old, I chose to sacrifice aesthetic for practicality. XD
