The Mantiad looks more like a gunship than a fighter that or some some type of heavy attack aircraft used to rape tanks and other non anti-air units and ships in low orbit.

well, this is a fighter more meant for the F-4 Phantom type area of use.

Your right, that was a much better version of the F-4 added on that the US armed forces Brass had some weird ideas of how warfare was to go. And that of the fact that you can't just leave it to missiles all of the time.

Right behind the cockpit? that'd be an AI-controlled tailgun that deploys when needed. If to the side, VTO/L hatches.
