Description Trip

It wasn't often he was permitted to go into town; it was even less often that his little sister was allowed to go with. Their mother said that the small fishing town down the road was no place for a little girl and that the walk wasn't proper for a lady. Yet, every now and then Kunan got his way and Kunagi was allowed to join him on the walk to town for shopping. It wasn't much; usually the household help got it. However Kunan liked to do it himself and go to the fishing village rather than the town that wasn't to terrible far from the family land.

Their trip hadn't taken long and they soon found themselves on the way back. Kunan was sure to stick to the shade of the trees for a rare summer heat had decided to grace the land. Usually Hokkaido stayed fairly cold and rarely seemed to go over seventy degrees; even seventy was a blessing. Kunan casted his gaze down to his sister that stuck close to his side. Her small arms embraced a new blanket for her futon. Their mother had decided that it was time for to get a new one and since it was hers, Kunagi insisted upon carrying it even though it was almost twice her size. Kunan tried to carry it but Kunagi, showed her rare childish side and pouted over the notion; hence forth he caved and let her carry her own blanket while he carried the dried fish, fruits, and other packages he had picked up.

Silently they walked, occasionally he would see Kunagi shake her head to try and free it of offending hair or attempt ti rub her face on her kimono sleeve to free it of sweat. He grinned, shaking his own head in amusement.

“Kunagi,” he called softly, earning her attention. She stared up at him with bright, attentive brown eyes. Eyes that really seemed bright and attentive at the sound of his voice or presence. “Follow me and stay close.” He turned, venturing into the woods. He could hear her stop, most likely tilt her head in confusion before trotting after him while attempting to not drag her new blanket in the grass and dirt.

Loyally she followed, staying near his side. He glanced down at her again; her gaze never left the path in front of her. Forward and attentive of her surroundings. Alert and bright.

“Yukionna.” Kunagi turned her gaze towards him again at her nickname.

“Hm?”

“Don't you ever get tired of training with father and I?” he questioned, looking down at her. “If you ever want to stop, you can. It won't hurt our feelings, we'll understand. Promise.” He knew their father asked this questioned often yet he thought he would try for himself. He enjoyed his sister being beside him at the morning training practices but he knew it was dangerous.

“No. I like training with you and father; I wanna be like you two,” she responded. Kunan frowned slightly.

“Its dangerous you know,” he stated. “You've seen how father and I look sometimes when we come back from an assignment. Kaibutsu, Degani and Ikani too. That doesn't scare you?” Kunagi shook her head, scowling slightly.

“I'm tough.” Kunan blinked. He even whined about his injuries sometimes. His side still hurt from when he stumbled over a ledge and hit his side on it. Then again, Kunagi had never gone on a true assignment yet. She hadn't gone past the training field.

“Its scary.”

“I'm brave,” it was a mutter and Kunan couldn't help the small grin that came to his face. He knew that was a lie. The first time Kunagi saw a lizard she nearly became one with Kaibutsu's leg, she ran to his room at night- especially when it was storming, she hated spiders and she nearly melted to the floor each time somebody snuck up behind her.

“If you ever get tired of it, don't be afraid to say anything, alright?” Kunagi simply nodded and Kunan stopped near a pond. Carefully he set down the paper bags and pried the blanket from his sister to sit it on the bags. “Don't wade too deep, alright?”

“Alright.” Kunagi stood still as Kunan slipped off her zori, tabi and tied her Kimono up so that she could wade at least waist deep in the water. Kunan plopped on the edge, kicking off his geta and rolling up his hakama while setting aside his blade to soak his feet in the water. He slipped his gei off his shoulders to expose their slim, white flesh to the gentle breeze that graced the land and the warm sun that peeked through the trees. The breeze felt nice and the sun wasn't to bad now that he was in the shade. He rested his palms on the ground behind him, stretching his torso back to expose his chest to the warm sun. He liked summer, yet hate it. Hakama seemed to hot, same with his gei, he couldn't wear a short Yukata into town- his parents would skin him if he did, he couldn't let his hair down; it did allow him to swim though and relax in a comforting heat.

He watched Kunagi wade around, chasing a small minnow here and there, digging through the muck with her toes, her slim fingers making ripples in the water. He tilted his head, quietly revealing in the heat then sat erect once more, “Yukionna.” She splashed over to him, the ends of her hair trailing in the water like a dark snake.

“Yes?”

“Let me see your hands.” Quietly Kunagi held out her hands for Kunan to grasp and examine. He ran his own calloused hands over his sister's tiny hands. He frowned inwardly and cocked his head to the side. “They're getting rough.” Kunagi nodded, wiggling her fingers.

“Like yours and fathers,” she responded, an almost proud tone in her voice. Kunan didn't agree with his mother on a lot of things when it came to girls, but there was one thing in particular he did agree on...

“You need to put lotion on them,” Kunan responded softly. “Ladies and little Yukionna's should have soft hands. Not rough ones.” Kunagi scowled at him and he kissed her forehead. “Soft hands are nice. I would use lotion to but at this stage I doubt lotion would help my hands any.”

“Fine.” It was a slightly pouted response, but pleased Kunan enough. He ruffled her hair, telling her to play a bit longer for they needed to get back soon; they still had a long walk ahead of them. Dried fish and fruit wouldn't go bad in the heat, he was convinced at this point that dried food would last forever, even after it had been eaten.

After about thirty minutes had passed he finally called his sister from the pond to dry her feet on a spare cloth his carried to cover her feet so that they may resume their walk again. Upon seeing the family gate did Kunan shift his gaze down to the child at his side.

“Did you enjoy your trip into town, Yukionna?”

“Mhm~,” Kunagi nodded, her dark hair flopping into her face, obscuring her vision and causing her to nearly walk into the side of the gate. “Brother?”

“Hm?”

“Can I go with you next time?”

“Of course, Yukionna,” Kunan responded warmly, grinning contently. “Trips are always much more enjoyable when you have a little company.”
