Avery had chatted with a few of her fellow competitors, finding some friendly faces. Of course, it could be that eventers were just easier going. Not to say there weren’t some nice people competing in the other disciplines. And there were a few she’d quite happily avoid.

The dunskin obertaurer mare knew what day it was and while she walked, there was definitely a sense of contained energy, her ears flicking about. The rain wasn’t a concern to a former wild obertaburer. For Avery, she was glad she’d spent a fair bit of time riding in all weather as she knew when it was time to go they’d have to adjust their rider based on how the footing was holding up.

When it came their turn to go, Aranka was off like a shot and it took the first few fences for Avery to get the mare focused in but once she did it was like they were one as she barely had to give the lightest aid and the mare already knew what she was thinking as they navigated the course, speeding up where they could make time but slowing where the ground was getting slick. She wasn’t concerned with being first but just for both of them to finish.

So imagine her surprise when the pair came in both clean and within time, if soaked and muddy! Avery was beaming as she hopped off and Bryce and the others were there to both hug her and give Aranka a pat as they started helping with cooling the pair down.
