Description
Graphite pencil portrait of Georgia Stanwix on A4 Winsor and Newton Extra Smooth Surface Bristol board.Pencils: Various Mars Lumograph (6H to 4B), Koh--i-noor woodless progresso (HB to 8B), Faber Castell 9000 8B, mechanical pencil 0.3mm/2B.
Blending: Blending stumps from Boldmere and Royal Langnickel and paper tissues.
Erasing: WH Smith kneadable eraser, Jakar battery eraser, Faber Castell Perfection eraser pencil.
I wish to thank CathleenTarawhiti for her beautiful stock image, Black Veil 2 , which I used as the reference for this drawing.
Edited 29 September 2014: Photograph replaced with one which has better definition and more even illumination.

The intense look in her eyes is amazing, but this is honestly some of the best hair I've ever seen, I want to feel it! Beautiful drawing!!

Thank you, Kevin. As you can imagine, the hair caused me a lot of problems, but I was determined not to spoil the picture with hair that was simplified into locks - I wanted the soft feel of the original so I had to persevere until I was satisfied that I had done my best. I was very glad to have found the beautiful photo I used as the reference as my motivation for drawing had been waning.

I admire especially the contrast you create between face/hair vs. the dark hood. This gives the face somehow a deeper expression.

Thank you, I am glad that you like it. I chose the reference because of the contrast between the black veil and her white hair so I cannot accept any responsibility for that contrast! I deliberately modified the contrast on the veil to show more detail of the overlapping folds of its semi-transparent material. I was, I must admit, very pleased with the way the drawing turned out
