The greyscale provides the perfect backdrop for the touches of color. It lets those colors lead my eyes in a spiraling view towards the middle where the turquoise sits patiently waiting for its turn in the spotlight.
I like the mesh, too. Like *theshadowmistress said, it's like pantyhose!
