The Super Dimensional FortressPonicross - Lovers Again
You didn't expect this crossover, did you? Spaceship is Magic.
This is a remake of one of the posters made for the anime Macross II : Lovers Again. The American audience is probably more familiar with the title Robotech instead of Macross, but it's basically the same thing.
The original poster for Macross II ranks very high on the list of my all time favourite posters, and that's why I just had to draw my own version of it. Unfortunately I suck at drawing landscapes and small scale figures, so this isn't as as good as I wish it could've been.
At first I was going to use Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy in place of Hibiki and Ishtar, but then I thought that this was the perfect chance to draw an epic Lyra & Bon-Bon picture.
That big thingy on the distance is of course the crashlanded Macross (SDF-1) spaceship that the series revolves around. Unfortunately, I haven't seen the original Macross Megaroad yet. The only one I was able to find online was the lame english dubbed and "kid friendly" edited Robotech version, so it was almost painful to watch. For now, I'll just have to settle for Macross Frontier.
Anyways, this was drawn by hand with water soluble colour pencils, and finished with white gel pen.

Ponies and Macross? Awesome
As great as this is, I must hop onto my soapbox: Macross != Robotech. The latter used footage from the former (in addition to two other series, Southern Cross and Mospeada), but it is not by any meaningful definition, an English dub of the series. Rather, it is an entirely different entity of its own. Your mileage may very as to how well Robotech itself works, but to conflate the two is a disservice to both series.

Well, they never showed Robotech where I live, so I hadn't even heard of it until online. The old Macross II VHS is the only one of the Macross series that I've found, so I don't have much knowledge about the differences between the two things.
The only thing I know is people complaining about how Robotech doesn't do justice to Macross, and seeing the first few Robotech episodes somewhere. I had heard that it was spliced together out of multiple series, but I didn't look to it further.

Unfortunately, this statement βRobotech doesn't do justice to Macrossβ exemplifies the failure to properly distinguish the two series that I alluded to. Robotech has no obligation to do justice to Macross because it is a separate entity. One might as well say that Escaflowne does not do justice to Macross; it would be equally nonsensical. Note that Iβm not directing this comment at you since I know you were only relaying what you had heard. Iβll get off my soapbox.
If you are interested in Macross, Iβd suggest checking out Macross Plus (if you havenβt already). Itβs one of my favorites.
Also, your picture inspired me to do some pony/Macross/Robotech art myself. As a long-time fan, I canβt believe I hadnβt thought of doing this until I saw your work! [link]

LOL Loved this anime!! I used to watch it when they showed it on PBS when I was little, along with DR WHO and 321 Contact and a bunch of shows I miss. They don't show that kind of stuff on PBS anymore.

The anime is quite unique with its music/sci-fi/military theme. Unfortunately I've only seen Macross II, Macross Frontier, and just a few episodes of the original 80's anime (which I'd really want to watch all the way through sometime).

Heh, Robotech was my mother's milk growing up... and a mile-long starship that is also a giant robot basically is magic as per Clarke's Law.

I've actually got Robotech on my bookmarks at the moment, but I haven't really been able to watch it more than a handful of episodes, due to the english dub, that unfortunately hurts my brain...
I'm more familiar with Macross II, and Macross Frontier, than I am with the original Macross/Robotech. But it definitely would've been cool if I could've watched Robotech while growing up. But I guess Animaniacs, Ducktales, and Moomin were just as good.

It would be 20% cooler If they included pony version of other characters from other shows like The Clone Wars, Avatar: TLA, Terminator, Predator, Phoenix Wright, Tekkaman Blade, Megaman, Resident Evil(Both games and movies), Pee-wee herman, AVGN, Power Rangers, MST3k, etc.(I wish I could add more but I think you can use your imagination)
I would kill myself to see a pony version of Ahsoka in the show.

I'll be sure to check out the link you gave me. The Robotech version was hurting my brain so much, that I could watch only the first three episodes. I didn't even want to see if they had also gone and ruined the original songs with their dubbing too.
Unfortunately it's quite difficult to get good anime here in Finland, unless you order it online. Especially if you don't live near the capital. They usually sell only the mainstream shows out here, so there's little chance I'd find Macross. I was very lucky to find Macross II on VHS back in the day.
