Description
Just to the west of Lómagnúpur (a palissade of cliffs 767m tall) in the South East of Iceland there is an old turf roofed farm at Núpsstaður dating from the early 19th century. Abandoned now the wonderful old buildings look like they are returning to the earth. There is also a small chapel which is one of the last turf churches in Iceland.Related content

They are farm buildings from the late 19th century. The turf covering is excellent insulation and waterproofing.

How incredibly curious dwellings. I would rather not dwell in one for an extended amount of time, but I would love to see one in person. This photo is a fine substitute, though. You have certainly captured the buildings in a charming manner.

Would seem that the soil and grass could have conferred a degree of warmth ,etc
