They are farm buildings from the late 19th century. The turf covering is excellent insulation and waterproofing.

How incredibly curious dwellings. I would rather not dwell in one for an extended amount of time, but I would love to see one in person. This photo is a fine substitute, though. You have certainly captured the buildings in a charming manner.

or are they completely boarded up. -- Great, and natural , photographic backdrop !
Would seem that the soil and grass could have conferred a degree of warmth ,etc
-- wondering if the builders of these houses adapted to some element of the encroaching
vegetation while they were still occupying the houses ?
