Description
Just to the west of Lómagnúpur (a palissade of cliffs 767m tall) in the South East of Iceland there is an old turf roofed farm at Núpsstaður dating from the early 19th century. Abandoned now the wonderful old buildings look like they are returning to the earth. There is also a small chapel which is one of the last turf churches in Iceland.Related content

These remind me of what they used to call "dugouts" back in the early 20th century. You can find some images if you search google. Also might find some under sod houses as well. But they were built up against hills and were protected on all sides except one, like these are. Great capture!
