Description Who knows what might be in your room after you turn off the light and go to sleep...

Homework assignment to draw something with very little light or a very small light source to exploit the darker end of the value scale, and yes, they permitted black paper. I drew the window in my dorm room and added some friends to spice it up a bit.

Thank you. And I bet these little guys would be awesome to cuddle with or just have sitting on your shoulder... that would be fun. They could even maybe a small fan for those really hot days where you really need some air circulation. XD But I digress.

I've always admired artists that can create such a beautiful and realistic effect using only contrast itself. The dynamic lighting really enhances the drawing (as opposed to some works I've seen where it seems to struggle with the subject for possession of the picture), and I love the graceful forms of the dragons, down to their polished scales. Another wonderfully crafted piece from a very talented artist.

That is brilliant! I love the moonlit look to it, well done! What response did you get to it in class?

Unfortunately we haven't gotten a chance to go through these assignments just yet - that will be tomorrow. The teacher did talk about 'hints of light' and 'dark to medium-dark range', but for some reason I'm thinking that they are going to say that I should brighten it up a little more. XP Should be interesting! And thanks a lot - I love lighting like this too (doy XP).

Bah, any more light would ruin the effect! I think that you have the balance perfectly, it looks exactly as it would if there were moonlight trickling through the window. Any more and it would look like a porch light or something.

I just wanted to follow up on your question about the response in class - the people loved the dragons, but the teacher was unsure about what was what from further back, and saying that it should have been brighter. *sighs* It's all a matter of opinion, though. Just wanted to tell you!

Good grief, how far back was she standing?!

First, they give you an assignment to do a drawing with low light sources, then tell you to brighten it up. *facepalm* Teachers these days...

*laughs* She was about ten feet away, so I suppose that had something to do with it. Yeah... I can agree with you on the teacher thing a little. Everyone really liked the dragons though so I guess it gets a few bonus points?

That's brilliant. It feels so real, I admire how u know where to put the light to create a certain effect. The reflection of the wing in the window is especially awesome.

Thanks - I was using white colored pencil for this, so when it is erased it has a tendency to leave a residue behind (or was that the erasers?). I had to alter and reposition a few points of light, but I don't think it's too noticeable. I'm glad you noticed the reflection.

Thank you! I've gotten pretty attached to those little guys myself - I've been looking at too much pterosaur art and reconstructions and they served as a mighty large basis for the guy with the extended wing. ^w^ Gotta love pterosaurs!

It doesn't really matter in the long run if you're 'first' or not. In the end if anyone even reads these comments later they won't even be thinking about who wrote in first. They'll just be reading the comments. Quality before quantity.
