Description Botched attempt at 's contest, making a character out of one of the animals she created. Sorry, Shaza - no name, no background (either for the character or for the picture), bad coloring... the only thing that really sort of worked out okay was the lineart, and even then, I don't think the wing that has its underside towards the viewer should be like that - looks bad.

This is a Crested Dreskel, one of Shaza's dragons included for choice in the contest. The almost ceratopsian head is an interesting feature. ^^ Nifty.

If you really want to incorporate it into the contest, Shaza, you can, but I don't mind if it gets disqualified. Just wanted to post it up in any case. Revel in the horrible coloring job.

Wow, this is beautiful! I especially love what you did with the rocks, how they have those nice, contrasty highlights and the way the color turns into just outlines. Very nice!

oO You like the color fade? Wow - that was mainly an act of laziness and not feeling bothered to color the entire thing. >> I guess some good actually came of it? ^^ Awgh... Thank you so much for the comment! ^^

Cool! You're the first person ever to draw one of these! This is far from bad. I really like it. You got their details spot on, and I like the way you've done the belly scutes especially. And the color scheme is right in with how they are. Thanks for this!

Awch... thanks? >> I really like how the scutes turned out especially as well. I'm glad it worked out well! Thank you for the lovely comment.

>>.. Agh - thanks? Rocks are actually sort of fun to draw, though I really don't know a lot about them or how they can look, etc... more random scribbling in the hope they they'll look like rocks.. But no matter. Thank you for the comment.

You have a very rain/wind-worn style that photographers go nuts for irl
I like the kind of wild, enthusiastic, shape you give it.
Everyone gives compliments to dragons, and artists appreciate it(including myself)... but how often is it that you have someone say..
"HOLY CRAP!! THE ROCK FORMATION IS ASTOUNDING!!!"

I DO mean it too

wow! thats awesome, love the head cresty thing. i lkike the head and the right (ourright) wing best!

maybe you need a different paper or pencils? the pencils look very grainy which can be difficult.

i agree with ahkahna, markers would look nifty coming from you!

Egh - colored pencils always are grainy with me, and it doesn't matter, even if I have Bristol board - I'm just too lazy with them and I don't like to bear down on them, both due to my fear of wearing down the pencils too quickly (can't really get them that easily), and also a lot of the colors I want are from pressing on the pencil lighter. But aye - the pencils I'm using are Prismacolors, supposedly some of the best to use, so it's more likely my lack of talent or skill with them that is the problem than the materials. >_O Egh.. but what do you expect, I guess?

I agree with you - I like the head and right wing (one that the topside is showing more than underside) in particular myself. And... markers? oO... haven't even seen any in any store that I've been in... if I find any at a decent price, I might try them out at one point or another... >>? Thank you for the comments!

maybe its the type of paper? and about the sharpening thing that might be it, because when i don't sharpen mine its like...ugh...
do you try faber castle? they are very good and reletivily cheap. i still think you are very good with them! the darker colours get a bit smudgy thats all.

i don't know much about markers but a few people use them and stuff comes out really good, so i think it'd be interesting seeing what you got out!

thanks for the...replies?

Aye... I was a bit lazy on keeping them sharp, which made me frustrated, but aye - I was also rushing it a bit to get it posted up here due to the deadline, but I didn't catch it in any case, so it's okay. Not okay that I rushed it, but the end result isn't as bad as it could be... it could still be only a quarter done, for instance. And no, I don't think I've tried Faber Castle pencils, though the name is familiar... I've heard that they're very good. ^^ Thank you for the suggestion. ^^

i know what you mean about the 'lazy keeping them sharp'...but also, i fear about running them down and running out of colour!

yeah you should try faber castle, they mgiht surprise you!

I really really reallllyy think you should start trying to work with marker. With the way you color in pencil, I am absolutely certain you could blow people away with markers.

On another note, this is an awesome character in general, and I think you pulled them off nicely. And, as usual, love the entire thing XD

oO Huh - never really considered marker. For one thing, I haven't really seen any around at any store (apart from the everyday children's coloring markers, etc.)... perhaps I could be good at them - who knows? >> If I find any, I might give them a try... thank you for the suggestion. I don't seem to be doing very well with colored pencil, it seems, but hey - I don't really work on that skill that often, and it shows. Haven't really been doing much art at all, really... but aye - I apologize for going on this rant. >> Thank you so much for the comment. ^^
