This is the story of the image. I think it's the most dramatic one I've ever taken of Nakusp. We had an awesome storm roll through the town last night and I was fortunate enough to be on the beach for it. Probably everyone in the Kootenay's experience that. It caused a power outage and road closure. A bit before the storm really hit I was actually about to leave for a different location, disappointed with what I'd shot when I saw a set of waves rolling in. So I thought I'd head back down to the shoreline and take a few more before moving on. Well the waves just kept getting bigger. And Bigger. I was only able to get this shot because the wind and rain were pounding so hard one direction that the back of the camera was totally soaked (and me) but it was leaving the lens clear. Around this time the waves were hitting at least 6 foot swells and the spray from the rocks was going right over my head. Again, so directional it was leaving the lens dry. This is a 6 second exposure to get the mist in the water, all 6 seconds I was holding onto the tripod to keep it steady as everything was threatened to get swept into the lake. I love storms.

That said, this image drove me crazy. I made 20 different versions of it and haven't been totally happy with any. I have a version with lots of sky, a square crop, a brighter color. I think it's the sky around the town that really bugs me but I could never fix it. I'm not sure what to do there. When I tried to go more color or a more vibrant sky it never worked. I likely lack the skill. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

I think the way you processed this is exactly perfect for the way you experienced it. It's dark, and moody, and awesome. I love it! It is such a unique waterscape capture, and makes me want to drive over to Nakusp and photohunt! It
is inspiring!! Great job!
