The High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, more commonly known as the Humvee is a 4-wheel drive light truck produced by the AM General corporation. The Humvee was first produced in 1984, and was designed as replacement for all of the US military's other utility vehicles such as the Jeep, and the M561 Gama Goat. The vehicle first went into combat in 1989 during Operation Just Cause, the US invasion of Panama. It saw even more action in Operation Dessert Storm, where it traversed the rough deserts of Iraq easily. The Humvee has retrofitted to serve a wide variety of roles; some variants fire TOW and/or surface-to-air missiles, others have been converted into armored ambulances, other variants serve communication roles carrying satellite dishes. This model is equipped with a rotating turret where a machine gun would be mounted. Humvees have been fielded to many other nations like: Greece, Jordan, Israel, and Poland. Because of its popularity in the military, AM General began producing a civilian model called the Hummer to the US public.
