Description First produced in the 1960's by the French Army, this armored car was designed for many combat roles: reconnaissance, anti-aircraft, troop transport and more. These vehicles were delivered to many countries and saw action in many conflicts such as: the Angolan Civil War, Lebanese Civil War, and the Six Day War. The vehicle proved to be easily air transportable making it favorite among the French Foreign Legion's rapid deployment force. Eventually the Panhard was phased out by the VBC-90, although it is believed the French have 300 of them left in reserve. Many other countries continue to wield the Panhard within their arsenals, like: Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Morocco.

I wonder if France would be nice and willling enough to transfer/sell their remaining 300 vehicles to my country as a welcoming present when we join the EU... I mean... we do need some firepower and these are cheaper to maintain than tanksas well as more versitale and in our geographic terrain even deadlier.

We called it the Eland. A good friend of mine served in these. We had some small guns, but also a 90mm version. We called them "Noddy Cars"!

Well... You don't shoot at 90 degrees angle to the hull

I didn't serve in armoured cars, but a good friend did. I never heard of that happening, but they did occasionally roll the vehicle (young crazy guys!)

Very cool armored car! Looks like it could zip into place, mess up someone's day and get out of there quick.
