I also tough that it was in 3D!
Similarly I also tough that it was an unmanned aerial vehicle, in the line of Terminator machines, but you surprised me with the 3-crew explanation.
Also one tends to imagine that such futuristic machine can easily be fully automatic and largely autonomous, not only to not expose human crews to the chances of real combat, but also to execute risky missions without any reluctance or subsequent remorse.

Fantastic concept. I appreciate an artist who actually takes the time to dissect their design and justify the inclusion of each individual component.
When I first saw this I thought it was unmanned considering the large array of observation instruments. If it doesn't have an externally visible cockpit why not consider making it unmanned? Just a suggestion, I'm not trying to tell you what to do or criticize the design. The gunship is awesome either way.

i think at even today's current standards of flight retrofitting for unmanned is no large problem, it is the inclusion of a pilot that will soon govern designed. for this i imagine there being a pilot and 'gunner' but at the very least all of the articulated guns could easily be switched over to AI control, or controlled remotely through the troops stationed in the rear.

That thing looks nice, but it's a horrible design from a military standpoint. Exposed ammo belts = blah-- put them in canisters like real life ones. Also plate over all those little flat things-- those things are nightmarish shot traps for fragments and bullets alike.
I would advise putting the chin guns on a single turret, mounted directly under the nose; that will give them a far greater field of fire. Also add intakes for the engines.

Legato895 In reply to jtrainor [2007-12-19 09:44:20 +0000 UTC]
There is no gunship I can think of, or for that matter, any mounted minigun that has all of its ammo contained in a drum - it simply eats it too quick. And as for the βlittle flat thingsβ I can only imagine what you are talking about.
As for the turret mounted chin guns, one chin gun with a roughly effective half dome of fire =/= 2 highly mobile guns on articulated arms that can fire in virtually any direction except up through the wings, and two larger caliber cannons with the same reach. In addition to being able to keep their angle of fire during evasive action they also have significant travel in almost all directions allowing for precise firing in heavy winds and movement.
Technically the ammo belts should be much smaller than they are now, however my excuse for that error is that they are now really bulked up and armored - for what its worth
Furthermore in regards to the blower intakes⦠which are facing up⦠apparently every other military helicopter with forward facing turbo prop intakes is doing fine :/
Gunships are going to get shot, however this oneβs main countermeasure is killing the enemy first using dexterous and mobile weapons, primarily controlled by computer firing programs for near-instant and preemptive response.

So when can i order one? I presume your going to start producing them soon?
I'll have mine in a matte black... hehe...
In all seriousness. This my friend is pure awesome.
Other then the scale of a few things ( weapon calibre and length/width of ship - compared to 6 men ) it look's awesome. It's clean lines look very futuristic. But functional and military like at the same time. How would it land though? I imagine that it would lower the rear section and the soldier's would rappel or debus via a ramp, whilst the pilots would tempoarily be seated vertical? Maybe the pilots seats could swivel? Heh.. well. In anycase. Simply amazing.

well, in retrospect the scale is pretty ambiguous... but if it could fire shells that big... holy crap!

Now thats looks effective, and even plausible in several ways. Reminds me of flying HKs from terminator of course, or something from section nines arsenal. I look forward to seeing it 3D rendered....and animated in a nice combat scene. A handful of these puppies taking out a whole infantry or a hoard of zombs or something. Your at the top of your game with this one man!

dunno. very good job, looks so original..
I took a look at that web page. Interesting stuff out there but i think yours is the best.
