High within the darkling sky,
ice waltzes airily atop gray earth,
fumbling lace torn from cloud’s hems.
Soundlessly swarming,
it tumbles, a plague of moths
flown too near the moon and
falling --
a million-billion Icaruses
to cloak a pallid world.
