Description One of several variants. This has text atop, with no overt attribution- hopefully people know this is a Sagan quote.

Carl Sagan (and family) are repeatedly woven into the threads of Star Trek, often merging science fiction with actual history. The child's voice on the real Voyager's Golden Record? That was Carl and Linda's son, Nick Sagan -- who amazingly ended up being a writer on Star Trek  (wait for it...) Voyager.

The Pioneer Probe shot up by Klingons in Star Trek V? Its famous nude plaque was mostly designed by Carl Sagan and drawn by Linda Salzman Sagan.

In ST:TMP, V'Ger was a Voyager probe- a NASA program Carl Sagan was synonymous with.

In Sagan's COSMOS episode 11, "THE PERSISTENCE OF MEMORY" Sagan speaks of whales with a regard that is clearly echoed in ST IV: The Voyage Home.

In Enterprise episode "Terra Firma" we see a memorial to Sagan.  More recently, we learn that the StarGazer was a "Sagan Class" starship.  What a testament to this giant of a man.    In the 70's Carl Sagan said "Science and science fiction have done a kind of dance over the last century", demonstrating how prescient he was.  He could not have known how much his own legacy would be taken up by Star Trek.     Here's another profound Sagan quote which fits perfectly with a scene from Star Trek.
