Description A magical moment in the Ngorongoro Crater when something seemed to be happening in every direction, it was such a buzz.

Zebras are generally slower than horses, but their great stamina helps them outpace predators.

If you don't mind asking what lens did you use? I'm planning to go to Tanzania later this year and I need to buy a perfect one for the trip, it's a great photo by the way

Sure, I used the Canon 100-400. I also took the Canon 24-70 with me. I too struggled to decide what to take and decided to leave my 70-200 f/2.8 at home, there was occasions I'd miss it but I didn't miss the extra weight! I thought about getting a 400 prime or the 300 prime with 1.4 converter, but I'm glad I didn't purely for the fact I was on a general tour so had no control over where the vehicle would be located etc, so having the 100-400 gave me plenty of flexiblity. I also took a second body so that I could switch to the 24-70 in an instant, you don't wanna change lenses much out on safari as it can be pretty dusty at times.

thanks for the advice I might not be able to get another DSLR right now though, I have an EOS 400d it has a built in function that cleans the sensor every time it switches off, do you think that will be sufficient if I take 2 lenses? Since I'd prefer that option instead of taking my bridge as a backup since those ones would be much lower quality and where you on a regular safari or a typical photography one? Sorry for all these questions, it's just that I'd rather be prepared than sorry

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lightkast In reply to FloatingKiss [2013-01-11 15:00:02 +0000 UTC]

Sure. You'd probably want to pre-plan what you're taking photos of then so you don't have to change lenses too much (i.e. telephoto for safaris, wide angle for landscapes). I second body or even just a second camera would be good though if you're on safari for instance and you want a wider shot, but most of your shots will definately be at the long end.

I was on a regular safari which is why I mentioned the zoom previously, it gives you flexiblity. A prime is too limiting when you have no control over vehicle positioning etc. Would've loved to have done a photographic tour over there but they were too expensive.
