Some characters develop their own personalities while you're not paying attention. Peaches, whose given name is Jenny St. James, is made of all the worst aspects of my actual self and all the best aspects of the person I often wish I could be.

Jenny is paranoid and hyperemotional, given to fits of wrath that usually result in vandalism and destruction. She lacks the kind of self-discipline and centeredness required for any martial art, but she enjoys the rougher edges of kickboxing. She is full of ambitions and grand ideas, but is totally unable to focus long enough to pursue any of them, which is why she rarely lasts more than a few months at any job. Past jobs include florist, factory worker, developer at a one-hour photo booth, waitress, freelance taxidermist, barista, apple picker, bookstore clerk, record store clerk, library page, photographer's assistant, cashier at a Korean grocery, and, for one night only, exotic dancer. She's currently employed as a baker and apprentice pastry artisan at a local bakery, where she has found what could be her true calling: catharsis through cooking. Her new favorite weapon is a brulee butane torch.

Jenny falls in love indiscriminately and has trouble keeping boyfriends or girlfriends. She demands the entirety of her lover's passion and attention but tends to drift between several crushes at once, inadvertently steamrolling hearts in the process, and then struggles to understand why she's constantly heartbroken. She ricochets between manic highs and desperate lows, and only feels totally at ease in the arms of a lover or at her mom's apartment.

Jenny is generous to a fault, and so is constantly poor. She's bright and educated, and not loudly opinionated. She is crafty and, in her best moments, owns her temper with a quiet mischief. She's wildly creative and enjoys painting, collage, altered-art, photography, metalwork and especially cooking. What began as a morbid collection of weapons became an arsenal of chef's knives, Global and Wusthof.

Jenny likes dancing and social interaction in dark, loud places. She smokes, drinks only rarely and never does drugs. She loves museums, galleries, city streets and zoos. She has roots in Cleveland. She knows exactly how many people she's slept with and all their middle names. She prefers to wear men's watches and cologne. She considers her friends her family. She plays it tough, but is as fragile as a bird.

In this drawing she's wearing shorts cut from Army fatigues and an Air Force dress-blue cap, both stolen from former lovers. She carries her favorite handgun, a standard police-issue 9mm Beretta, and her beloved butane cooking torch.
