Description AKA Flutters 2.0

Amidst all the witch-hunting and the tons of troubles anyone with anything close to a 'Show Accurate' puppet suddenly seems to get, this here is an adapted version of the beloved Fluttershy.   This means killing all the hard work that went into making the show-accurate puppet in the first place but ohwell.  Several things got addressed however and since we don't have such things as studio limitations here we decided to have some fun in prevision of picking up a small animation project in the works.

So essentially she'll be a test of that puppet design and style.  Worry not, she'll get her cutie mark

Also, you ever thought about making an expression sheet for Fluttershy or any of the other ponies?

Not at the moment.. the puppet is in use but still in its infant stage.. so many things I want to correct on it now that I'm using the beta.  But seeing as it is of mine and my wife's design, I already have an idea of how to make the facial expressions.

Should things develop more, a complete model pack might be made

Looking forward to it! Btw, will it come to the point where every time their mouths are moving that their teeth aren't always showing? From what I recall in seeing the Midnight Mares trailer that's what mostly happened, just seemed a bit off to me.

Consider that a very big test too.  My client was quite worried that the puppets looked too close to those of the reference material (MLP:FIM).  So when animating, I made sure that the style was different.  I didn't mind the teeth that much, but making them 'appear and disappear' like it so often happens was also something I never quite really liked.  Hopefully I'll find a middle ground where things look both good and satisfactory.

The advantage I have with toonboom and its hierarchy with symbols is that I can add a lot of touches that would be extremely difficult in flash.  But I'm convinced I can remedy the problem.

Sounds good. I'm sure your new puppets would have even more varied expressions than the actual show. has a pretty unique style for his ponies (his comic is awesome btw, I highly recommend it).

"puppet"?

I'm a bit out of the loop.

It's what they are called in Flash and Toon Boom in order to be animated.  Cutout Puppet would be a more accurate term

Looks pretty good, but shouldn't it be not so much of an issue as long as you're not using DHX's leaked assets?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lionheartcartoon In reply to vgmaster9 [2014-08-27 09:16:33 +0000 UTC]

There's always a bit of an issue for visuals that are close (sometimes TOO close) to the show.  Children of the night used no leaked assets at all and is considered 'show accurate' for the character models.

Not only that, if it is animated in a way that imitates the show too closely, it could become an issue due to the animation 'confusing' the audience as to where that animation came from.  Because not every viewer is a brony that knows of someone's foray into fanart, there are parents and kids that, while enjoying the video, do not know that it is fan-made and it can be misleading.

With a different style, we keep true to the fanart and appreciation to the show without being close to the visuals that could potentially 'confuse' the viewer and we stay on Hasbro's good side.

It has the same overall feel as the show style puppets so i think it wont annoy anyone in that sense. Looking forward to the animation!

I really like this design! It has more realistic structure to it's anatomy, but still feels cartoony. I love that kind of balance in animated characters. I look forward to seeing this style in future projects! ^_^
