Pencil sketch for the talented Matthew Humphreys ,one of the 'winners' in the 'chase down some Hermann Mejia Mad issues for me' deal....
...Captain Shakespeare and his lightening pirates from the wonderful 'Stardust' movie.
Lots of fun to draw - though I didn't really nail the captains likeness as well as I would have liked and the background got a bit messy, but once you are committed on a sketch this size there's no going back!!
Pencil (those old fashioned analogue drawy things - kind of like a stylus, but without the power supply issues
) sketch, text to entertain myself added in photoshop.

Love this movie, and was able to find the 4 graphic novels I bought in the 80/90s and read the original story, wish I'd read them sooner!

*fave'd* ... Absolutely hilarious, the only art I've seen that even tries to approach capturing all of the "Stardust" aerial pirates, and the first notable fan-created art I've seen about that superlative movie in at least three years. Bravo on all three counts!
I'd say you nailed the likeness of the Captain. Maybe not De Niro himself, quite perfectly, but sometimes characters' resonances go beyond even the efforts of the actors who play them. (It was true with Yvaine and Claire Danes, as well.)
The comic-balloon aside from the oldest pirate — who averred (or is it avARRRGHed? {grin}), "We always knew you were a whoopsie, Cap'n" — puts this pretty much beyond perfect.
And from someone who's seen this masterpiece at least 20 times (11 in theaters) by now, I have high standards for saying that.

I wasnt totally convinced I'd 'got' his look in this one, but everyone seems to recognize him, so it cant be a total write off
