I've been looking into doing something similiar with Renamon, but with particle fur.

I've made it in DAZ, and particles aren't present in that software.

in DAZ, you could try "Garibaldi hair" plugin (I use it myself in my deviant art gallery) or "Look at my Hair", both are available in daz3D store.
