...That's where I live... my mom's family is from around the Big Thicket...
I love them, but it's usually made a lot more difficult by all the brush.

I've driven through the Big Thicket but haven't gotten a chance to stop and explore it yet. I've spent a lot of time in Kisatchie in Louisiana though. If you want to get away from the brush, look for areas where they do prescribed burning. It's probably most regularly done wherever there are red-cockaded woodpecker colonies.

Ah, like Jones State Forest. Did a research project there once--not too bad, but you have to be really careful (lots of feral pigs and snakes).
