Description This painting is about some mercenaries capturing an albino giant. Any crits are much appreciated .

Your technical abilities are off the charts and so is your imagination. Β Not sure if this is what you intended, but the albino's image appears to morph from out of the ground and it is unclear which is which at times. I will check out your other composition as you are right, the background and lighting does "muddy" the image a bit. Β Were you inspired by a book or a movie perhaps? Β You have an incredible imagination and talent (I'm sure you know that!), and I expect you to be working for Hollywood designing story boards or scenes and sets with your incredible talent. Β Really quite incredible work you do. Β Very impressed!

Great attention to detail man. Great concept. I dig his muddy hair. However, as you said you wanted criticism... I personally think you can get away with the current colors that you have. The giant is albino for a reason right? He blends into the forest as he should. The picture needs stronger shadows though in my humble opinion, and the merc looks copy/pasted on the giant...he casts no shadows on the giant.
That's all I can think of for now
Feel free to blast some criticism on my pieces too...I would appreciate it

Very nice man. The only further crit I have is on the leg of the merc to the left. I think if you add slight bit of light to the curve of the top of his knee cap it would help the slight flatness to it. Otherwise, the changes you have made are perfect man Good job!

As far as crits for me... it's up to you really. I always appreciate a good crit. Perhaps on one of my last 6 or 7 pieces that aren't studies? Any of them would do. Your choice.

Having looked through your gallery, what I think you do best is Narrative. You draw/paint with a narrative style. Each painting is a unique story contained within itself, each figure having its own sense of 'character' and a backstory. The 'Mercenaries' painting is its own story, the struggle to capture, between the predator and prey.

The only sort of movement is in the Mercenary pulling the chain. He dominates the picture because he has the only colors that stand out from the off-white of the rest of the picture.

The Giant unfortunately is so close in color to the floor of the forest that he blends in, even though his form extends from the top to the bottom of the page. The only way I can see this being brought to its full potential is to bring the Giant forward in focus so it looks like the Mercenary is actually kneeling on something. This could be done with a combination of:
-giving the Giant some more color, such as tinted purple.
-Perhaps give the Giant another wound, on the head or along the back, and the blood can better help to outline his figure.
-Another way could be to darken and/or color the forest floor to make it different from the Giant so he stands out better.

What you have done well in this picture is the composition, capturing the Mercenary's and Giant's figure; the texture of the leaves on the ground and the figures feels very gritty and realistic. I just love the giants hand's.

I urge you to try and rectify the problems. It's already good, but it could be GREAT.

To add on to what Jrice said, the giant's torso feels flat, give it some more contour. It doesn't stand out from the ground.

Overall, there are wonderful details in here. I love the costumes and the grimy fingers and the wounded leg

Since you asked for critiques:

...The giant's skin color (and texture) is too close to the color of the ground. The overall effect is as if the entire image is actually in stone relief (with the exception of the figures, which seem in strange perspective).

There appears to be a hard light coming from the right, but there is little ore no evidence of deep cast shadows on the left of forms. Consider his right foot, for example. We see the form shadow in the cup of his foot, and it's quite dark! ...But where's the cast shadow of the foot? The ground to the left of the foot is slightly darkened... but only a few levels. It's inconsistent with the form shadow.

The giant's expression is... okay (I would prefer the eyes be more squinted), but isn't looking anywhere significant. ...We get the sense he's "thinking about" the man on his back, but can't see him, and isn't straining quite hard enough to see him, so his attention seems a little lost. The spear in the upper-right seems a decent focal point: could he be staring down that particular mercenary?

There also seems to be a lack of muscular tension, which I think the scene could really use. I like the main merc's left hand: it's tense. But that's the only *real* tension I see in the image: his face is slightly squinted, but I'd like to see that exaggerated, his neck stretching, his back arched, the giants hands pulling away from his back from the force. ...The giant's right foot could be on his toes, fighting against being pinned. The giant's neck could be thrown back and twisted more. The hand on the spear in the upper-right seems down-right relaxed: it should be tense and white-knuckled with fear...

Again, though, amazing details in the image, and I love the overall color scheme and the rim-lighting, as well as the contrast between areas you've developed and those you've left more blurred.
