"..but I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am."Captain James Tiberius Kirk. The original. Is it just me, or is 'Tiberius' the coolest name ever?
So he's no Bones.. but after watching several episodes, I think TOS Kirk is growing on me. Something about Pine's Kirk felt like it was lacking and I can't quite put my finger on it... hopefully he will grow into the role during the sequel. Until then, there's only one Kirk, and his name is William Shatner.
The hand sucks ***, I know.. the reference photo I used had the color on it totally blown out and I redrew it possibly 10 times to no avail. So it stays crappy, because I'm about to rip out my hair in frustration. Deal with it

Brilliant! Amazing job! And yes, Tiberius is the coolest name ever... Or definitely on the top 5 list... Top 2... I love Kirk no matter what, though I get a different side of him in the old versus the new. I think with experience and relations between the famous trio (Spock, Kirk, and McCoy), repairing in the new one, I can't help but wonder which side we'll get next. Amazing portrait, I love your style, your detail, simply perfect. I can't wait to see more. ^^

I think Pine's Kirk was fine, he nicely caught the characer of the young womanizer Jim but I don't know... something was missed from his play, and it was William Shatener.

of course, Pine's Kirk was totally missing the overall Shattitude that comes with TOS Kirk. I mean, it's William Shatner.

And the hand doesn't suck! Then again an artist will always be their own worst critic.
The eyes are especially captivating, I can't stop looking at them.

Pine's Kirk was a little too reckless and awkward with the ladies. shatner's Kirk was a smooth operator. I personally prefer Shatner's Kirk as well. <3

Yeah hes definitely not on the same plane of awesome that Mccoy is.. but he was still pretty badass back in the day. I see him in those travel commercials now and it's like.. "damn wtf happened Bill?!"

UGH, I KNOW. It's like...he lost himself after those days of glory. I remember watching the show, then watching one of the movies, and then I saw him on TV, and I noticed just how much he aged. Still, great guy!

Yea I don't totally understand how that happened to him. All the other cast member still look like themselves, only older.. but somehow Shatner is different. Like.. he doesn't look like the same person. If you put a picture of young Shatner next to old Shatner, I don't think you could see a resemblance... its weird really. Thats how he seems to me anyway *shrug*

Mm-hmm. I noticed that...I compared two pictures of him, one old one young, and the only resemblance was the smile, and I suppose the eyes. You're right about the others though; they just look like an older version of themselves.

Hehehe... I definitely prefer Pine as Kirk but you have to remember that he was playing a much younger, raw and immature version of Shatner's Kirk. I'm sure he'll give us a much more "polished" version of Kirk in the next movie.

I know a bit of Star Wars as well... and in comparison to each other, Star Trek tends to be more futuristic and science oriented. Wars, with the force and everything, is more like Dungeons& Dragons in space.
So I guess it depends on what you're in the mood for at the time, but I wouldn't call one better than the other. I never understood why everyone feels they have to argue over which is usperior.. just enjoy them both!
