I'm spreading this short fanfic around DA, as sort of my tribute to him.

Three figures stood around a stone. Each one, at first, was fighting to hold back tears, but had long since given up, letting them flow freely, watering the solemn grave.
The first, was pink and plump, with twinkling sapphire eyes. He was young, too young to understand what was happening, but Kirby knew one thing: there was a presence that had always smiled and had always been there for him. And that presence was gone.
The second was a man who had seen many things, who had braved terrible danger to be reunited with his true love. Mario removed his iconic red cap, and placed a green mushroom next to the stone. If only...
The last figure knew what it was truly like to lose a friend. Time and time again he had seen life spring from nothing and then wither away. And each time was more painful than the last. The other two stepped back as Link opened his mouth, surprised. He rarely spoke. What would he say after hearing of the death of one so beloved?
He withdrew a rounded, glossy instrument from one of his pockets and played a haunting, yet peaceful, melody.
Mario kept silent. Kirby hummed along, rocking back and forth on his large, pink feet. Neither of them knew that Link had played this song before many years ago to lay the souls of the departed to rest. His tears trickled into the holes, but the enchanted Ocarina did not falter.
The Song of Healing wove its way into the sky, and as the night drew on, many others joined them: A yellow mouselike creature with reddened cheeks, a woman in a blue bodysuit who was no stranger to loss, and even a blue hedgehog that had recently heard of the saddening tale. More and more kept coming to whisper words into the night, or leave trinkets with great importance to them, or to pay their repects.
And although each one did not see, they all felt the glowing warmth of a smile shining from above.

It's late, but I couldn't sleep without posting this somewhere...
