Description Nintendo has had a significant impact on my life, from Yoshi's Island to Mario Kart to Kirby Super Star to Splatoon; the company's games always provided good fun, and for all my life I believed that was what video games were all about.

Satoru Iwata passed away on July 11, 2015, after almost 15 years of impact upon the game company as president and as the host of the Nintendo Direct. Under his directorship, the company created beautiful masterpieces up to the recently-released Splatoon for the Wii U. Iwata and all of Nintendo have given not just me, but an entire generation of kids the chance to have fun in these fantasy worlds--hurtling through outer space as Mario, galloping across Hyrule upon Epona, searching for treasure in the Great Cave Offensive, catching that Diggersby tho in the Kalos region, and even making a mondo mess as a sentient squid-kid. He had an ideal; he produced games that people would play and find fun. (He even halved his own pay to compensate for undeservedly poor initial sales of the Wii U.)

I have surrounded myself with friends who share my love for the games, who I could talk to about strategy, in-game-happenings, and fantasies of my own that involve the worlds of those games. Iwata's vision, and every developer involved in making that vision a reality, gave me something to share with other people, and even get to know them better through that gate lined with green warp-pipes.

It's strange; as my childhood fades, the figure that defined Nintendo's vision in that time has passed as well. But his influence upon people like me shall not fade. We'll still be the Goomba-stomping, Pikmin-plucking, turf-inking, Mewtwo-catching, pot-smashing, Waddle-Doo-inhaling, yoga-doing, kart-racing, coconut-cream-pie-showering, Metroid-blasting, PSI-wielding fun-lovers that Iwata's vision helped bring out in us.

Thank you, Mr. Iwata. May you rest in another castle, knowing that you and your company have blessed a generation of gamers.

I'm spreading this short fanfic around DA, as sort of my tribute to him.
--
Three figures stood around a stone. Each one, at first, was fighting to hold back tears, but had long since given up, letting them flow freely, watering the solemn grave.
The first, was pink and plump, with twinkling sapphire eyes. He was young, too young to understand what was happening, but Kirby knew one thing: there was a presence that had always smiled and had always been there for him. And that presence was gone.
The second was a man who had seen many things, who had braved terrible danger to be reunited with his true love. Mario removed his iconic red cap, and placed a green mushroom next to the stone. If only...
The last figure knew what it was truly like to lose a friend. Time and time again he had seen life spring from nothing and then wither away. And each time was more painful than the last. The other two stepped back as Link opened his mouth, surprised. He rarely spoke. What would he say after hearing of the death of one so beloved?
He withdrew a rounded, glossy instrument from one of his pockets and played a haunting, yet peaceful, melody.
Mario kept silent. Kirby hummed along, rocking back and forth on his large, pink feet. Neither of them knew that Link had played this song before many years ago to lay the souls of the departed to rest. His tears trickled into the holes, but the enchanted Ocarina did not falter.
The Song of Healing wove its way into the sky, and as the night drew on, many others joined them: A yellow mouselike creature with reddened cheeks, a woman in a blue bodysuit who was no stranger to loss, and even a blue hedgehog that had recently heard of the saddening tale. More and more kept coming to whisper words into the night, or leave trinkets with great importance to them, or to pay their repects.
And although each one did not see, they all felt the glowing warmth of a smile shining from above.

Now that you say it, I realize that it's the same for me. ='( You made a great speech here, locomotive111.

RIP Mr. Iwata. We'll miss you.

Rest in Peace Mr. Satoru Iwata.   Always remember the original, but also don't forget:   Mario sees you up there, and he just wanted to say a few words for you: You-a were the best-a CEO of Nintendo that-a I could hope-a for. Thank you for-a being here on-a my 30th anniversary. I'm-a sorry you didn't get the 1up, or reach the flagpole soon enough-a, but remember that-a me and Luigi, and-a all of the Mushroom-a Kingdom will have-a castle for-a you. If-a you come-a back as a Boo Ghost-a, we'll-a keep a separate-a ghost house for-a you. May-a you find the big Question Block-a.

Very nice tribute...
Ok, anyone can come kill me, but... I forgot who Iwata was until someone mentioned me... Not good with names, I'm sorry!
As a KH fan... May your light shine bright, and may it not fade away. You've done a lot, Iwata~sama.

That is a nice tribute you drew; Mario with his hat off in respect and his mustache drooping in sadness, and Kirby holding a flower for him. May Mr. Iwata rest in peace.
