Description I'd like to try this shot again sometime. Unfortunately cloud flowed in and I stopped the shot sequence so this is all I got. Good excuse to go back

I have to say I love these long exposure night shots sketchy and with grain and stuff, this is super cool, how do you like the 40D?

That's amazing..! I must know how you did this, please! I've been trying to do a similar shot for many days in the summer while I was out of town, but I couldn't get anything close to that! Do you put any filter in front of the lens? Aperture fully open with tripod, and just left it open for 20 minutes?
I had left it open for only 3-4 minutes, but the picture was getting too bright and the start were seen less and less with each passing second!

First up - fantastic gallery, I really like it.

Thanks . There was no filter - I was basically just in a really dark place in the middle of nowhere near no light what so ever and on a new moon - or close to anyway I think. I'm assuming the problem your having is your too close to a city or somewhere thats emitting light - the darker the better, and the smaller the moon, the less light it'll cast.

I had planned to take more shots, but by the time this shot ended clouds had rolled in. I had planned to take a series of 20 min exposures and stack them together in phtooshop to get a full radial or the stars - but no luck. Just as a note, I wouldn't really recommend exposing much longer then 10-15 minutes, you get way too much noise from the heat of the sensor.

Ahhhhhh... that explains it! I was in a village, so there were street lights. They were a bit farther, but no more than 15 meters.. I guess when we have to do with such long exposures, even the slightest of light matters! So, no lights, preferably no moon, and if it can be done, no more than 15 minutes of exposure. Oh, thank you so mcuh, now I cannot wait for the summer to come and leave the town once again!!
And thanks so much for your kind words too! ^_^

Thanks. The green is just from a white balance adjustment. It was more interesting then the plain dark blue of the sky

roughly knew where it was and used a few test shots to find it.
