LuthienThye β€” Fate ... or faith?

Description Inspired by a film script, I was encouraged to use elements from the script to create a mixed media journal. Fate, faith, foreboding, signs, divine prophecy and hallucinations were some of the topics addressed in the film. But mainly, it was the words fate and faith that drove the creativity process of this journal.

Do you believe in fate? Can "faith" drive "fate" ... eg, when someone, say a fortune teller tells you some things, and you have so much faith in this fortune teller, you could actually manifest her words by your own blind faith. So when the exact things she said happens ... do you then believe that they're "fated"? Can we reshape β€œfate”? Some people believe strongly that they can ... does that now mean it is "fate" that drives "faith"?

I allowed myself to go a little havoc for this piece, and was brave enough to try things I've never (but always wanted) to try ... like the peeled up, scratched out and decrepit looking background complete with splatters and cracks! Other elements used were my "self-rust" iron washer and mesh wire, and an antique key. The derelict clock is created with air dry clay, a rubber stamp, some rough handling, paint and destress techniques. The white paint drip/run ... was a last minute addition and what a dramatic effect it gave the whole look!

The journal is bound using the 'single long stitch' technique on the back side of a piece of medium soft leather, to give it a more weathered look. An antique brass chain with a piece of mother of pearl makes a unique page marker, and completes the look.

about fate... band lost horizon would answer ''no fate, only the power of will'' and I would agree

i charge differently for each one depending on the materials and time i use. usually it's between 40-50USD per journal. however this one is already sold ... but i'll definitely be making some more in the future thanks so much for asking!
