Hi! This is a comment from !

I can't describe how much I love this piece but I will try. I love the realism of the piece but yet it is still original. I like that you turned this simple concept of the two zebras fighting into something unique. Making it black and white was a good choice, the background would not need any yellow because the focus is not on the savannah but on the two animals and monochrome makes them pop out. The anatomy is very good, though I think that the leg of the right zebra could be a bit longer and more muscled. But that is all I can say as a negative thing and it does not deduct anything from the impression your piece left on me. I find it a stunning artwork. Keep this up, I will continue to admire your art

dear majspanda, this is my comment for you:
i have to say, you are really professional in watercolor. your technique is great. to me everything in this piece is perfect. i dont feel uninteresting but lively zebras even though it's monochrome. btw the mane is pretty rough and long, but still ok.
i love it so much. i look forward to your next art.

This is very beautiful. I love the use of charcoal with the watercolour. I really also love the way
you used the watercolour to make the overall mood/effect the way you imagined it. The technique
with the watercolour is outstanding, and really stands out. The way you accurately painted the picture
also shows the great understanding you have of the animal. Overall, Great work!

I think this is exquisite. I really especially like the way the stripes sort of become the fore- and background scenery in a surreal fashion. I also think that the proportions of the two zebras are spot-on. Zebras in general aren't all that leggy (except the foals --- but that's true for all ungulates), and the mouth of the one on the right shows a really strong understanding of the anatomy of equine mouths. I'm in awe, I really think this is exceptional!Β

When I did this piece, I was riding once every day for three months so that's where I learnt about equine mouth anatomy haha But I'm really glad to read your comment, I'm so happy that you like it that much!

Wow!I really like the detail you put in this it makes a very nice a beautiful piece! The stripes are nice and natural and vary in pattern. But I think the legs on the right one could be bigger and the hair a bit more natural. Also you could maybe make it a bit more leaning to the side because in a thing is leaning on another thing then BOOM physics! The shading and things could be lighter and at some areas a bit more dark. Also on the zebra that's jumping on the other....Well I'm not sure if you made it to look like the tongue isΒ swollen or there's something in it's mouth. But overall it's a very nice and well drawn picture!

Thanks for the long comment! But I'm wondering, what do you mean by making the hair a bit more natural and vary in pattern? And do you think that the contrast of light versus dark should be intensified? I personally feel that that would destroy the feeling of the art work...

Interesting, since I was going to make it look like a fight I'm just not that used to drawing motions, so it came out looking sort of weak instead... But I'm glad that you like it nonetheless!

Hello majspanda, watching your work with high perspective finnished, i think i will use a proof critique

Its a beautiful idea, Its a profit the use of rough paper that mostly ends in elegant finnishes, like those zebras
the idea complements directlyΒ  for using at monochrome color and the environment combine too,
an ambiance wich transform from the smoke and spots to lifeforms and steam generated for the movement.
The technique is nice. elegant finished, no stronger tones, and ligth shadows, the smoothness of transition is correct for this paper
my recomendation: you can use more brigth in reflects, using in eyes, belly and hooves (it gives more realism)
black color its used perfectly, the charcoal and watercolour too.
Also, its necessary to zoom out the composition, cause you are representing the environment too (cause its relevant)
and make more larger this transition, only a bit more (It works on this drawing, not in general)

Thank you so much for the long comment! And I can totally see where you're coming from about the composition; it is very tight, and could really use a zoom-out. I never thought about how the roughness of the paper affects the painting, but that's very good to think about! Thank you
