Description another one of my projects in the VA3D course in highschool. it was really cool, because a well known haida carver came into our class to talk to us about the culture and the art. id say this is my first attemp at wood carvings (i dont remember if ive done it before oO and i think it looks pretty decent, if i may say so myself. i tried to make the background look like water, but i think the real deal looks better than the photos . i almost lost a finger when i was doing this, because i had never used the set of tools before (they looked like mad scientist surgery tools..) and because of the angle i chose to place the fish, i wasnt carving with the grain of the wood.. whatever.. i finished it . oh, and i stained it to make it darker and then sanded some parts to make it kind of.. more interesting?

Very cool and it came out great! I've always wanted to carve something out of wood...is it hard?

thanks! well.. i thought it was pretty hard at first. was so worried about lopping a finger off . once you get the hang of it, it gets a bit easier.

Wow, usually I'm not too into Native American type carvings but this really caught my eye! And for the record, I really like the water texture (was that just an oximoron?).

thanks! i really liked how the water turned out too. (and i dont know if that was an oxymoron? i guess water could potentially have "texture" )

Is there a particular type of wood you prefer to work with?

well, i havent had much experience with wood so far, so i guess any soft wood is good?

WOW :eyepoping: Thats Soooooooo cool! Theres no natives where I live since it was too cold for them to ever settle here but man that is sweeeeeeeeet. Tha color of that wood. I have a bout fourteen stitches in my hands from four diffferent cuts, it's the price you pay I guess. I realy gan't express how astounded by you're talent I am. Oh, now I'm inspred, but not skilled enough, I guess that means I'm jelous.

granite is awesome. marble is cool too. stone in general is neat . too bad i dont have any to work with or any tools or a place to work with oO;.. i remember when i worked with sandstone, i had to wear a mask and have all the windows open because there was so much stone dust stuff from me filing away at the stone .
